...Unless you count Tyrese, which would make it the fourth gay death... ;)

But Tyrese wasn't gay, he was a pacifist.

The cliff hanger didn't really bother me that much but I also agree it wasn't necessary. At this point, they could kill just about anyone and I could deal with it. I actually hope it is a main character and not some sort of cop out like Aaron. That would be boring and not add as much depth to the next season as the loss of someone that we know well. If I had to bet, I would put my money on them following the comic. I even feel like Abraham or Sasha or Eugene would be a waste. I don't think people are emotionally invested in them enough for it the have the impact they are going for. The Governor killed Hershel, so if Negan is even bigger and badder he is going to have to take out someone even more important than him.

You know, Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam, of course.

I became quite the pacifist after I moved outta my 8 year long digs in an inner city neighborhood. No more war. ;)

I would be pissed if this was how they did it. As far as the show is concerned, Dwight is not a major character, and is even more of a cop out than Aaron would be.

Taking the comics into account...

Daryl could still become Dwight in everything except the traitor stuff. But without that, what is the point of Dwight?

Yeah but the traitor stuff is very important.

I don't care. You're the leader of a group that has one doctor. There ought to be a directive out there that under no circumstances does the doctor leave the safety of the camp. At the very least that directive should have been given out to his core "group," which happened to be the fucktards that took her out.

Leadership isn't just about making reactionary decisions, there's also foresight, and in my opinion, protecting a resource as important as a singular doctor should have crossed his mind.

So she is a slave?

Granted, I haven't read the comics, but I'm not ruling out Maggie. That would be some crippling shit right there.

My guess is that Negan wants resourceful badasses in his group, which explains the extraordinary lengths he went to in order to "shock and awe" Rick and crew. Those roadblocks, and whatnot, that was designed to end the fight before it began and I think that's because he's impressed with Rick's group and wants them alive.

That said, I don't think he'd select the lucky one based on who he perceives as a threat. Frankly, given Negan's demonstration of strength, I don't think he perceives any of them as much of a threat.

Negan already has fighters as his group. He needs workers to keep his fighters fed and happy.

Here's my take. Negan's about control and fear. Abraham proffered himself to be killed. No way Negan takes that offer. He wants it to CRUSH the groups heart and soul. Not take out someone who wWANTS or is ASKING to be killed. Hence him scoffing at him.

He won't take out Rick, because he wants Rick's group see him crippled with fear and resorting to being Negan's bitch.

I don't think it's Darryl. I think they want you to think it's Darryl. Plus it seems like it would be anti-climatic after him being shot last week.

Michonne; I don't think it'll be her either.

Despite the picture posted with Carl's shadow, I don't think it'll be him, because of the potential awesomeness going forward with him and Negan.

Honestly, I think it has to be
Glenn. It's too important for the story going forward to be anyone else.

I don't disagree. I am just stating what I would, not what is going to happen on the show.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Negan wouldn't be the least bit interested in the services of a group of folks that wiped out dozens of his fighters as well as overran an entire outpost of his. That would just be silly. I don't know what I was thinking. Mea culpa.

@calsnowskier - This turned out to be wrong, but I couldn't help thinking this during the "Carol getting shot to pieces" segment:
The way she was begging to die, I thought it was a strong possibility that she would fulfill her comic book fate and accept the embrace of a walker. I'm glad they didn't kill her off, but it would have made perfect sense if they had decided to do so.

She needs to go back to being the bad ass she is. Otherwise, walking into a zombie and saying, "so you do like me" would be fine. I hate this pansy she is becoming.

I think it will be Glenn. He showed the most life of everyone, and his death would have the added hit of killing Maggies husband (which was made very clear when Negan threatened Maggie).

Abraham - He has been my prime suspect for many reasons that I will not re-state here. I think he was fed up as the red herring in the episode, though. He is happy and in a good place. His character does not have much more room for growth. He is "fixed". All tell-tale signs that a character is dead. Red-Herring.

Eugene - While he is important, I dont think he character is embraced enough by the audience yet. He also still have a LOT of important plot points going forward.

Michone - It will not be a female. No way they will kill a female in that brutal a fashion.

Sasha - See Michone.

Maggie - See Michone.

Daryll - Too popular a character. I also think they have built up his rivalry with Dwight too much. There are specific scenes I am very interested in seeing next season with Daryll thrown into the mix.

Rick - No way. Negan needs Alexandria to have a solid leader in place, who has been castrated, of course. And there is a very specific scene next season that requires Rick, specifically...

Spencer's death

Carl - No way

His whole relationship with Negan

Aaron - I HOPE not. However, he has vaulted up to my #2 option. A complete cop out if he is the one.

Glenn - See my reasons above.

If you are running the strongest army out there, do you keep the leaders and threats of the second strongest army alive after you publically kill one of their closest friends in the manner Negan just killed somebody? Or do you beat them down and slowly take the fight out of them?

That would depend on no small list of circumstances.

I can tell you one thing that I wouldn't do is right off the bat expect to take a group of badasses and turn them into farmers that would willingly give me half their shit. Were I Negan, I'd asses the strengths/weaknesses of the individuals of the group as well as their pliability and make decisions based on that.
