It's time we get this rolling ..

Every few days, let's post a draft scenario - the first two picks - and then we can discuss the good, bad and or the ugly about it ..

First up:

Round One Pick 31 - Jason Spriggs OT

Round Two Pick 63 - Dak Prescott QB

What is you reaction ?

My first response was WooHoo!

Spriggs--He is one of the few guys that I can see having a great skill set to handle the LT spot for us when we would need it. Throw in Okung while I'm happy we signed him hasn't shown he can stay healthy for an entire season so having quality depth on the OL will be a big need. Stephenson falls into that same boat as well Sambrailo as well. Spriggs has some major technique issues he needs to work on and can have what I would call brain farts at times but the physical skills are all there.

Prescott--I think we have talked about this a lot with him in he is a guy that physically fits what Kubiak likes to do on offense. He has shown an incredible ability to grow as a QB going from more known as a runner to becoming a true pocket passer this past season. Not an easy switch especially behind a very bad OL.

My only concern with this draft is we get possibly 0 immediate help from our top-2 picks. Dak while looking promising probably needs a year to learn how to function in the NFL. He is a quick learner so I could be wrong on that and maybe he is more like Russell Wilson and surprises people with his ability to step in day 1 and lead this team.

If we did this I honestly would expect a pretty average season this next year. I still love our defense and I think our offense could be ok even with Sanchez at the helm. If we did this I actually might just want them to start Dak just to get him the experience plus knowing you only have him for 4 years before his contract is up and that we need to see him early to make some decisions. Live with the consequences knowing this draft is more about setting up the team for winning from now on while we have one year to really rebuild.

I think we'd be drafting Dak with the hopes of him starting - maybe not expectations of starting, but giving him a shot

He is a hard nosed guy, and I think having Dak start at QB would generate a different and more enthusiastic vibe among the defense ... Both sides of the ball would have the same mindset - smashmouth football - esp if we were to bring in a guy like Arian Foster ..

I like that we brought in Sanchez - and I liked Osweiler - but neither of those two fits with where our defense is as far as intimidation and mindset ..

I am not saying this team is a gang of thugs, however, what Elway is putting together - and what he has put together on defense - is an identity .. And the identity is intimidating hardnosed football ..

Dak fits that role

I would agree that if he comes in it definitely brings about a different attitude than that of Sanchez. I mean when teams have to respect his running ability and the fact that he isn't afraid to lower his shoulder when needed would make us that team especially in the 4th quarter that nobody wants to go against.

I do think his moves on offense this year have been a lot of the same towards that of the defense. Both Okung and Stephenson come from ground and pound ZBS type teams and are known for elite athleticism to really get out and get into it with some defensive people. I'm hoping we maybe see some of the old Green this year at the TE position. He was incredible in the run game but seemed to really struggle understanding the ZBS this past year. Hopefully another off season and we see him back on the edge really opening things up.

Spriggs sounds like a boom or bust player at #31. If they view him as another Duane Brown that is the boom. Ryan Harris that is the bust. My 1st preference would be defense at #31.

Dak at #63 would be something to like.

Is Prescot expected to be available that deep?

Yes. Honestly, anything earlier than our 2nd and im starting to think he is gonna be overdrafted and would rather wait on a guy like Brissett later... imo at least

I'm with CEH, would prefer one of the D guys in the first. But overall I would be happy with both guys

If that were our draft I would be happy. I really like Spriggs as a LT in our system. I do worry about his functional strength and he doesn't seem to have 'heavy' hands (watch his film, he gets his mitts on a guy but they always slide off... can be a problem) and also think he is specific to LT, which limits his value to me a tad... (just a tad). He is much more an athlete right now than a football player, but he has the potential to be a very very good left tackle in our scheme, and having that key position with that 5th year option is a huge plus.

I think Dak to us round 2 is hugely possible as well. Denver likes him and he is a good fit developmentally for us.

Overall.. i would take it BUT I would be nervous for round 3... because we need to add some dline players sooner than later haha

My approach right now is

Round 1: Best DL/OL available
Round 2: Your developmental QB
Round 3 and comp pick: One of them BPA and the other either DL/OL (Depending on what you took round 1)

If a guy falls though or there is value to take a corner or an edge rusher somewhere, then this changes of course, but this is how i would view the first 3 rounds right now.

I like Spriggs and I know it is considered a reach to draft Dak at 31, but a 5 year contract will look very good on Dak Prescott.

this is a cool idea for a thread... you should include the third round next time (just because we have two picks and that leads to 4 total in the top 100!)

Thanks @SpiritOf77

There's probably going to be a RB drafted too. Any chance the Broncos make one of their earlier picks a RB? Or do you think CJ's contract means we'll make a late pick for a RB?

Arizona is a team we might have to look out for in the 2nd round, apparently they like Dak too

Would surprise me if we took O-line in the first round considering our acquisitions so far, unless he were the BPVA at the time. I think that's what Denver does first : picks the best player, and if two or more are close, then they address a need. The Broncos are good and deep enough at most positions to be able to do this. It also gives you the best chance at draft success.

I'd be cool with it. Although, I'm cool with just about anything. We're coming off a Super Bowl win and over the past few seasons Elway and co. have shown a pretty good eye for talent draft-wise. I trust their picks and whatever the picks, these specifically or other guys, I'd be fine with.

It is nice not to fret over the draft because you just won the Super Bowl. All the fans of the other teams in a panic because their not picking last in the 1st round. It's nice.
