Pick made sense... Nobody knew how Manning would be at that point. Remember all the stories of how Brock might be the 3rd and long QB his rookie year or how Manning might just be the red zone QB... They had to have a backup plan. And it did help them win a SB.
If Manning wasn't going to be healthy, which was unknown at the time, I would have invested in a FA QB with experience. Not a 22 year old with 14 college starts. But that's me. ;)

But Osweiller costs 900k a year on a rookie deal. Your solid backup money for a guy like Henne, Sanchez, or McCown costs about 5 times that, and if Manning isn't able to return, you are right back where you started, needing a new rookie QB.

I could care less about the 14 college starts. He threw just under 700 passes in college in a good conference. More than Cam, Brady, or Rodgers.

True, about every team is thinking that they missed out there.

Coulda moved up for Weeden as well. Or waited a year, gotten a vet backup as someone mentioned and had their pick of Geno, Mike Glennon, Matt Barkley, Nassib, or Landry Jones in rounds 2-4 the next year.

Why would we wait a year? I don't get your point. We evaluated Qb's that year. And we graded Oz higher than Wilson. That was a big mistake

Oh yeah, I was talking about someone saying get a journeyman backup instead of a rookie that year. The later round (not 1st round) QB's the following years haven't really shown much.

And it was a big mistake the entire league made. How would Seattle have felt saying he wasn't worth the 47th pick in the draft if he went before they picked again? Everyone evaluated him and nobody felt he was worth a 2nd round pick.

The fact that Elway's son went to ASU and was friends with Osweiler probably set the table for the decision . .

John Elway seems very comfortable with familiarity - which has paid off well in Kubiak and Wade ..

He's just gotta learn to stop listening to his intoxicated son

I really liked him. Mostly because all through the pre-draft and early draft Gruden kept beating Mel Kiper over him. Kiper hated his height and Gruden said he didn't care. I sided with Jon on that one. lol

Not saying I'm sold on Brock and now even with the Texans but I can't blame him for taking the money and going to another team considering the Broncos chose Manning who was god awful last year over Brock who was the better QB towards the end of the year. If you don't get to play over a QB who led the NFL in interceptions in less then half a season then obviously Elway and Kubiak weren't sold on him. GL in Texas. He will need it. Peace.

Sounds like you can blame Kubiak for Brock leaving. He was pissed after the benching and all he needed was his agent to find him another home. Sexton did a great job.

I prefer blaming Kubiak for the Super Bowl trophy.

I'm happier about that than I am mad about losing Brock.

Yup, can't argue with a SB win, and Peyton wasn't to shabby to end the year. Maybe they could have won with Brock too, maybe he would have had 3 turnovers in the divisional week and they would have been out there. But we know it was a 100% chance the Broncos won with Manning.

The Texans coaching staff knew they had to throw up a hail mary because something had to change or that coaching staff and front office will be out on their butts.

Hitching your wagon to Brock who is now making as much as Romo.

What it tells me is Mr. Osweiler is more concerned about himself than he is about the team. That's Brock's fault.
