riley can be replaced by spaight if needs be . the d/line can be drafted . look i went up to like 54 mil in cuts . or here is another scenario

yup. Riley is a viable candidate to be released since he is not even starting anymore. He is expensive depth. He is a good example of finding a 2nd string ILB in FA and paying less for him. Lavauo kinda falls into that scenario also. Long can start and we have Kojo as a viable backup.

look if we are cutting players arent they weak links and also team needs ? safety d/line ILB center are all needs and we would be cutting guys who arent producing . and you are right about your above cuts

That's the right way to do it. But some have posted 6-8 guys to cut. Not all of them are bad players (Garcon, Goldsen) but their cap hits are out of whack with their production. As you said, we can't address all holes this year, but we damn sure should not create anymore holes, either. As fro safety, I might consider cutting Johnson before Goldsen. Johnson has been disappointing. We could find his replacement in the draft or in FA.

Here is who I believe we can cut, find adequate replacement and pay less, either through FA or the draft:

Hatcher
Lavaou
Johnson
Roberts
Riley
Griffin

These cuts will free up a good amount of cap money and will allow us to find find some upgrades at their positions. Based on how we do in the draft, there could be other vets cut in preseason such as Licht, Paulson, Goldsen, Hall.

I like j's position here. Agreed we won't be big players in FA. But we weren't big players last offseason and still made a number of signings. I was never a big Lavao fan but he played well before getting hurt, I'd hold on to him. As discussed I hope they find a center in the draft but I'd keep Lich in case he fails to develop.
