The other poison pill with the transition tag is, if the player does sign with another team, you lose your tag until that players contract expires with the other team.

So say we transition Kirk, and he signs with another team on a 6 year deal. Next year comes up and we find we are in need of using the tag on Reed.... we cant because we lost our tag rights until Kirks deal with (what ever team he signed with) expires.

If it gets to that point, as i said in another post, do we really limit ourselves for the foreseeable future over $2.5 million in cap space??

i agree with you here . so many pluses and minuses i would franchise him and save the transition tag for reed

and gee next year we get to go through all this all over again :trash:

The only teams that I would worry about stealing KC away if we use the transition tag are Rams and Texans. But the Rams have to sign back Jenkins and Johnson and one might get the franchise tag so they will be shelling out big money for those two guys. I cant see how Dallas has the money to offer KC 20m annually with their cap. Maybe the Texans but I just think the FA market will offer less than what KC's agent is asking for KC right now.

There are at minimum 5 teams in need of a starting QB right now. I know you tend to discount the Browns, but of all the teams needing a QB, they would be the one I would actually stress about. They have the cap space. And signing Cousins would leave them free to

1. Take Joey Bosa at #2
2. Trade out of the #2 spot if so desired and add more draft picks to improve that roster.

Reality is, this QB class reminds alot of people of the class that produced Blain Gabbert. Meaning a class that doesnt really have a day one starter at the QB position.

Shark, Wentz and Goff are Day 1 starters and are franchise QB's. I don't know how you can compare them to Blaine Gabbert. The Browns have a chance to get one of these two at cheap money and develop. Why would they GIve KC 20million? They can spend their cap money on defense in FA.

Wentz and Goff are rookies. Kirk has a some what known quality to him and signing him would allow them to add a Franchise type player in a Joey Bosa to their defense. I would hedge my bet to say if there were NOT five teams in need of starting QBs, Wentz and Goff would not be considered top five picks.

But KC is not exactly a proven franchise QB yet so why risk the 20 million? But I think KC can be with us but not Cleveland. We have the better offense weapons then CLE. BTW the best defensive player in this draft is Ramsey not Bosa.

Of course there are always questions but I just cant see Cle overpaying for a QB. KC is worth more money to us than CLE.

Thats your opinion. But in either case, most are saying Wentz would benefit from a year on the bench, and Goff has questions as well. Every one seems to be hung up on the contract number with Cousins. The reality is, if the Browns are NOT dead locked into taking a QB at #2 it gives them alot more options. And a smart GM in the Browns situation would consider signing Kirk, and using that #2 pick to get more value in the draft.

New coach is going to want a new young QB. How would KC have success in that situation in CLe? If your CLe you have to start from scratch.

Locks onto reads and needs to develop his eye use, staring down targets and leading defenders. Needs to improve his passing anticipation and feel for timing routes. Downfield accuracy is inconsistent, often leading receivers too far.

Bad habit of pre-determining throws and forcing the ball into tight coverage.

Who does this sound like to you Dean?? And a new coach that says i will pass on a guy that has starting experience and is still young, for a rookie with questions might not be the coach for very long.

If he is franchised, no the Browns likely wont call. But if Cousins is given the transition tag.... the Browns are on a short list of teams I expect to throw their name in the hat.

KC is more valuable to the Skins because he succeded in this system. He holds much less value in other offenses because based strictly on talent, he is a fourth round prospect.

I agree with that gk. That is why I don't think Cle would offer him a huge deal.

1) What makes people think KC will regress with healthy players returning and a likely upgrade at the center position? Especially after improving so much during the season?

2) is it possible we keep RG3 to trade him? Hear me out. His contract becomes guaranteed on March 9 but if we trade him after that and he works out a deal with say...Houston...that contract becomes void. Houston won't give him 16 million this season but may be willing to offer him a smaller contract with 16 mil in guarantees over a couple of years.

3) is it also possible we don't have all the information regarding contracts and rules?

I've listened...you lost me when you said he works out a deal with....that "contract becomes void".

If I'm HOU...I am interested in RG3...but, there's not going to be a huge market for him so why would I trade picks or players for him?...I know WAS is not going to carry his $16 mil CH AND pay Cousins...I'll will sit back and wait until he's released.

How do you know there won't be a huge market for a QB that was ROY a couple years ago when many of the coaches that raved about him coming out could use him?

How do you know Washington won't sit on his contract? It is possible they could. Why would two teams have already contacted us about a trade if it wasn't a thought?

Well...I don't to be honest, but I should say as a starter.

As a starter he's going to want $10+mil per...is that fair?

If we include all the needy teams...CLE, SF, HOU, PHI, NYJ, WAS, LA.

Let's say WAS secures Cousins. CLE and SF are in line to get the top two QBs from the draft...much cheaper than RG3 with less risk.

So you have HOU, NYJ, PHI, LA...really a 4 team market and if you count Bradford in the mix for everywhere except maybe LA...that's not a huge market.
