I don't know if this is a rumor or fact. 20M to KC this year. I guess that hurts our FA spending this year.

Cmon - you should know better. There is still a good chance that the Redskins and Cousins agree on an extension in the next few months.

I'm not sure what sense this makes to tag him now. Not saying it didn't happen, but if he got tagged today, they'd have to clear out cap space to accommodate his tag and the most direct way of doing that is cutting RGIII. If so, that would've made news too, and, as far as I know, that hasn't hit the news wires yet. (The Redskins could've also re-worked other players' contracts to make cap room, but you'd also think we'd have heard about that too.)

This doesn't mean that they will tag him ASAP. It just indicates that they will tag him at some pt (unless he is extended prior to this). This is complete non-news.

Watch the link that Deanpet provided. This is all conjecture from Schefter & another example of how his reporting skills are regressing to the pt of being a joke.

Oh I agree with you. It doesn't mean that the Redskins will tag Cuz ASAP -- or perhaps at all. Schefter used to be a pretty good reporter. Not sure why he's taken a step back. When Shanny was here, Schefter got a lot of the skinny albeit from a pro-Shanny perspective.

Schefty still remains tops on legit breaking news, IMO.

Wasn't a fan of how he decided to report JPPs info out of the hospital tho. Regardless of legit or not, seemed unnecessary to me.

The Franchise Tag for Cousins will squarely put ALL pressure on Cousins imo. He already knows he cannot perform to the level of a $20M QB so... if he plays poorly which I expect him to level out some this year from his last 9 games or so from the end of last year will certainly affect his earning potential the following years. He also needs to understand his $20M cap hit doesn't help the team at all. So, will Cousins be selfish and not sign a long term deal that both sides want or will his agent remain on the, "we have them bent over a barrel so take the money while you can" approach and let Scotty figure out how to fill on the pieces around you with less money available?

I say Cousin's popularity could take a huge hit if his intent is simply to take the franchise tag and plays poorly. On the other hand, Cousin's popularity could put him in the "Best QB ever in our Franchise" if he somehow works out a long term deal that is financially feasible for both sides and he plays well. This could get interesting because if Cousin's is tagged and plays poorly, the franchise will be looking for another QB in 2017.

IF I am Kc I would want to get tagged b/c is 20M guarantee plus he still has All his weapons coming back even though he is making 20M. So its a win for KC. I cant see him doing that bad b/c all of his weapons are back. If I am the Redskins I would want a long term deal do I could spread the money through multiple years.

To conclude its like I said before KC holds all the cards in this deal.

SO out of curiosity, how does this play out should Kirk play under the tag and actually do better??

If KC plays under the tag and does better his long term deal would be better in 2017. Or the SKins could franchise him again in 2017. If im KC I would want the tag.

If he puts together a year better than last year? People will clamor for the team to pay him whatever he wants. And if he plays better next year, he will be playing at an elite level which most likely means the team did well, including another playoff visit and maybe a win or two. Under this scenario, the team WILL pay him whatever he wants.

Unfortunately I see his play regress a bit this year, but no where near the level of his learning, INT laden first few years. I just see him more of an upper middle of the pack QB that can manage a team to the playoffs. Hopefully I'm wrong and your scenario actually plays out. It will be so nice to be out of the QB lottery and have an undisputed franchise QB.

I only ask the question because there seems to be an underlying tone at times that we should simply tag him as some seem to expect him to revert badly.
