Okay, I'll backpedal a bit ... prior to 2014, Aviles had played only 10 MLB games in the outfield. But the last two seasons, he's played 33 and 39 games in the OF. I didn't know that. (Not a guy whose career I've bothered to follow.) I don't know how good he is out there, but I guess he could fill that DK role.

I'll give you a +1 for justified persistence, Iffy. :thumb:

Is Aviles your latest/newest windmill that you feel you must attack (dougie must be Sancho to your Don Quixote)? I would be very, very surprised if the Tiger's World Series hopes are pinned on either Aviles or Collins. PLEASE! If Aviles is on the roster in April, let's not hear post after post about how the Tigers might have won a game if they had Collins on the bench OR (and this is more likely) that Ausmus had the audacity to actually use Aviles in a game!!!
So you actually think Aviles is worth a 25 man roster spot? Or are you just trying to challenge me on something.. would love to hear why you disagree that Aviles has no business getting paid 2 mil or holding a roster spot from anyone.

Possible scenario: Tuesday night Castellanos takes a foul ball off the big toe. DL isn't needed but he'll need a day off (maybe two). Romine takes his place for the Wednesday day game. Your bench is now, Collins, Saltalamachia, and Goss. Tiger middle infielder goes down in the fifth......whatcha do?
I know you are a fake Tigers fan that just puts the Tigers logo as your favorite to troll tigers fans.. but you do know there is no Tigers player named Goss right?

It's kinda the age-old dilemma, innit? Go with 5 outfielders or 6 infielders. I guess the only difference between Romine and Aviles is that Romine (supposedly) can also play outfield.
Romine actually is much faster than Aviles at this point and can bat lefty. Romine > Aviles... and that is sad.

So what's the difference between Machado and Romine or Machado and Aviles? Or Romine and Aviles? If your argument is to keep Aviles over Collins, I don't get your point.
He doesn't have one... he is only here to post babbling idiocy.

AL teams need players who can play multiple positions...thus Aviles types tend to stick around.
Aviles can't play one single position above average. Most he is below average. He can't hit.. He can't defend. Who cares if he can "play" multiple positions if he sucks at everyone at this point of his career.

Mike Aviles 2015 - 5 HR / 17 RBI / 3 SB / .231 BA / .282 OBP in 317 PA (2 mil salary for 2016)
Tyler Collins 2015 - 4 HR / 25 RBI / 2 SB / .266 BA / .316 OBP in 207 PA (500k salary for 2016)

Aviles bats righty like most of the lineup.
Collins would add a lefty bat to a right handed heavy lineup.
Who do you really want on the 25 man roster?

Hahaha....gosh, this is critically important. I guess Vice will be harping on it until the Tigers resign Hernan Perez.

LMAO....this is fun.

Hernan Perez. Let's see...dropped from the Brewers 40 man roster and made available in Rule 5 Draft. GOSH....not one team took a chance on him.

Now I realize that professional scouts, like Vice, know Aviles is not as good as Hernan Perez. And yet....the Tigers passed on Perez and signed Aviles. Seems like the Tiger organization knows shit!!!! (GOSH....or could it be the other way around?)

LOL.... Hernan Perez in 238 PA for the Brewers
.270 BA / 21 RBI / 4 SB / 15 doubles

Mike Aviles all of 2015 (317 PA)
.231 BA / 17 RBI / 3 SB / 10 doubles

What does that say about Aviles if Perez sucks so bad?

Hernan Perez wasn't signed by anyone because he is out of options and would have to be put on the 40 man roster of what ever team he would have been signed to without the flexibility of sending him down to the minors.. which at the age of 24.. is where he should have been last year but the Tigers and Brewers could not send him down.

Mike Aviles on the other hand.. is out of options.. and sucks ass... is 34... makes 4 times as much... is a shittier defender... a shittier hitter... and has no room to mature into a better player... which Perez easily still could.

Hernan Perez isn't a future all star.. but he is on par with a player like Ramon Santiago who has had a nice long career in the majors on playoff caliber teams.

LMAO.....OK. I guess the Tigers don't have a chance at winning anything....they can't even out-think some guy on an obscure sports board.

This is your response to clear stats that show Mike Aviles sucks asshole and is not even a comparable player to Hernan Perez?

I am not as easy to troll as Doug is Iffy... You can make idiotic posts trying to defend an obviously horrible roster addition in Aviles for the the purpose of who knows what... you can claim its not the difference between winning and losing.. but in the end... Its not that hard to show that just about every playoff team had a better last option on their bench than Aviles last year. It does matter. Over the course of a season when you are going to be handing 200-250 PA to someone... would you rather they actually can hit, get on base, and field a ball... or just be able to say they have played the position you are assigning them before?

I really don't care what you say in your attempt to sound intelligent... The Tigers have better options in the minor leagues to be the 25th man on the roster than Aviles... The only reason I can think of why they didn't go this route is for leadership and clubhouse presence... but to spend $2 mil on a total waste of a bat that can't even field ANY position he plays at an average clip... he better be a fucking clubhouse guru.

This kind of situation calls for Collins to be Don Kelly.

Unfortunately, Tyler is no DK.

Edit: read thru thread. DKs legacy isn't in question.
