Good question redskinsfan. There is no question that Lawerance is the better pass rusher but he plays in a different defense than Murphy does. Lawrence did have 8 sacks this year. As for Long, he did step in this b/c of injury and played LG for us and was average at best. With the drafting of Kojo does speak volumes to me. Now that Scherff is going to be our RG for the next 5 years, Long has to beat out Lavou when he comes back and kojo. It was a reach in the draft to get Long in the 3rd round while the SEC INterior lineman of the year Jackson was still on the board. It thought Van Noy and Attachou were the better pass rushers if we didn't trade with Dallas But Lawereance did not fit in our 3-4 system so I don't think we would of taken him if we stood pat.

In my opinion the Cowboys did not get the worst of this trade b/c as of right now Murphy and Long are just backups. While Lawerance is Arguably Dallas' best pass rusher. If Long beats out Lavou and Kojo for the starting LG position this year then you can be ok with the trade.

I'm hearing that Long may be tried out at center, but one of the mocks I looked at had us taking Alabama center Ryan Kelly. I'm not sure if that's too high for him, but I like Nick Martin from ND as well.

If you look at our draft from two years ago. Moses was a 3rd and Breeland was a 4th round pick. Sometimes you can strike gold in these rounds. NO bullshit about that skinsdad. ESPN just had a blog about the 2014 draft. They claimed the best pick in that draft was Breeland. A 4th rounder.

Was that the best pick in the Redskins draft or the entire draft in general?

If Long wants to be a starter in the NFL he is going to have to do it at Center. Breeland was a major steal that is why you always need the 3rd and 4th round picks. If we took the Bama center in the 2nd round I wouldn't have a problem with it. Although the center position is pretty deep in this draft.

Of course you can strike gold in drafts. I mean Brady was there in the sixth but the odds say you just got a future car washer. That is why you do not trade away what is quality depth for a 50/50 or a long shot.

Nobody is saying you don't need or want 3rd or 4th rounders. You just don't trade away a guy going into his third year with 22 starts for one.

Well if some team offered me a 3rd or 4th rounder for my 4th OLB I would make the trade. Of course the draft is a crapshoot but the way I look at it is that Murphy is not going to start or play significant time for us in the future that is why I would want the draft pick.

Dean, you overlook how often the 3rd and 4th OLB plays. You also need to consider his play on STs, as well as the likely hood of injuries. I would not consider a trade of Murphy for anything less than a 2nd. Which no one will give us.

if Galette signs he would be the 4th OLB. Yes injuries are a factor but you are going to turn down a good draft pick b/c Murphy play ST's? C'mon

Not sure which question you mean. He has 3 or 4 posts with questions.

Let's change the Murphy discussion to this hypothetical. When we drafted Murphy in 2014, we actually traded down and swapped second rounders with the Cowboys that same year. With our second rounder, they drafted DeMarcus Lawrence. Who would you rather have now?

Before you answer that, we got the Cowboys third rounder that year and selected Spencer Long.

Any thoughts?

I going to pass because I know what I have in Murphy. He is a solid player that sets the edge very well. He will never be spectacular, but he does what he is supposed to do. When I draft a 4 th rounder, it is a crap shoot as to how he will turn out. History says that he probably won't make it long term. We need solid players and not take risks on a midround player.

Well, first thought was that I would rather have Lawrence than Murphy. But when I throw Long in there also, I'd say it was a fairly good trade off given our situation when we mane that trade. We need young, aggressive players.

My question boils down to this: who would you rather have between DeMarcus Lawrence, on the one hand, and Trent Murphy and Spencer Long, on the other. If you don't know who we have in Murphy (or the others), it's fair to wait and see.

As of right now Lawrence has had a better career than both of them. Plus you can make the argument that Murphy and Long wont even play this year while Lawerenace is Dallas' main pass rusher.

You could make that arguement. But I'd bet you are wrong if you do.

I think Lawerance starts for Dallas. Long and Murphy are backup players.
