Upton will fit nicely into the Tigers' clubhouse. This guy is totally self-contained and has never been a team player. Hopefully, he gives it his all, on the field, for two years and says Aloha. BTW....his outfield play will drive you up the wall. He'll make a good running catch one inning and then air-mail a throw to third, to give up a run, in the next inning. (Kind of surprised he went with Detroit and its big stadium...he likes those long balls and bat tosses.)

BTW....figuring that Illitch had money burning a hole in his pocket and he was going to pay through the nose for someone...I prefer Upton over Cespedes, especially with a ''chance'' to get rid of him in two years. (If Tigers are stuck with him for 4 more years....look out....)

The contract includes an opt-out after the second year, which would allow Upton to go back on the market as a free agent at age 30, a source confirmed to Crasnick.

I'm not a fan of this Upton deal for 22 million a year tbh. He is a good player but if Cespedes could have been had for say 5 years and 90 million, I would have preferred that.

The deal has an opt out after 2 years.. if he puts up the numbers he has been or better... its a guarantee he will opt out. This is basically a two year deal.

I agree to that forgot about the opt out situation. History proves he could be a disappointment though.

Upton has more upside....but neither player thrills me. It also appears that a lot of MLB GMs weren't knocking down the doors to sign either guy. (where there is smoke there is fire?) But Illitch was going to toss his money at someone...it was only a matter of how much and who.

He is 28 and has pretty much hit around .275 and 25+ HR for the last 4/5 yrs. There is no way he doesn't opt out when he can at the age of 30... All he has to do is what he has been for the last few years and he will get more money two years from now. Being 28... there is a VERY good chance his best year hasn't even happened yet.

Cespedes has nearly 10 confirmed GM's knocking on his door...

Lions suck....of course we have the idiots who come here and manipulate stats to their own liking because they have a massive ego problem....

Upton might put up two more season similar to 2015 where he hit .254, had 81 RBI and 26 homers. Not many teams may jump at giving him a raise on his guaranteed 22 mil after a couple of years like that.

Musings on Upton signing....Illitch's money has formed a powerful offensive ballclub, no doubt about that. That's what he likes....he has done this before, (Fielder, Sheffield, J. Gonzalez, Pudge) he loves those big bats. Of course....there is the pitching. Tiger fans will have to cross their fingers on that. Right now, I don't see a rotation that says "guaranteed post-season" on it.

I'm hoping that all the disjointed pieces fall into place for the Tigers, but I've seen this play before. Ya know...pay top dollar for superstars but it just doesn't work out? Seems almost like an old tired story in MLB. (Oh how I like those teams that ''work'' to put together a good team - creating a good farm system, bringing up young players and then adding missing pieces via trade and free agency.)

is there such a thing as a rotation that has guarateed post -season on it? The Nationals thought there was too last year.. they supposedly had the best rotation ever. The Royals got in and won it all with one of the shittiest rotations in MLB playoff history.

Stop acting like you hope the Tigers do well. You don't. You want them to fail so you can troll some more. Seriously Iffy.. change your favorite team. Get the Tigers off there.
