Look at the money Paea got. Look at the money Hatcher got. I believe in paying money for players that are proven. Mack will be a lot of money but he would solidify the online. We have the money to spend this year. I say we take a shot. I don't care who the RB is our running game would get a huge boost with Mack.

Why wouldn't you want a Pro bowl Center? Its arguably our biggest need.

Because he is on the backside if his career and is probably looking for a big contract to take him into retirement. We should know to stay away from those guys or do you need to be reminded of all the over the hill, overpaid vets we signed during the vinny years?

At his age he should know that he will not be getting top dollar. If Paea got overpaid last year then SM could offer Mack a decent contract. 5 to 6 mil per season for Mack is not crazy for a guy of his caliber.

Because we don't want the associated contract. Just because he is aging doesn't mean he will take less for his current ability. If anything, he will want more in guarantees.

But mack said he wants to play for a winner. Wining teams usually don't overpay for players at 30 years old. If Mack wants 5 or 6 mil per season do you say no to that? I wouldn't.

Short term contract...sure. 2 years tops. But he won't want that.

IF he wants to go to a winner he is going to have to take that b/c of his age. nO team is going to offer him a 5 or 6 year deal at he age of 30. cmon now.

Right that would mean is salary should come down to the 5 mil range per season.

yes his best years are not in front of him
No, but his most expensive ones are. Who ever signs him will be paying top dollar for diminishing returns. We've seen this movie before, why would we want to go there again?

While I'd be OK with the move I'm not sure you want to use Paea and Hatcher as examples to further your argument Dean. Those guys just back Dad's position.

Mack will not ask for top dollar if he wants to play for a winner. We see it all the time players take less to go to contending teams. The deal he signed in 2014 made him 8 mil per season for the next 3 years. So you are saying he is going to get the same money on the FA market? No way.

I'm saying that our recent history is littered with move like this that bit us in the butt. Learn from your mistakes, Dean.
