Padres don't need to have that much money invested into their closer role, they can sign one or find one from inside the organization to take care of the 9th. Needed to improve their farm system after last year and this is a good step to doing so. Too bad they couldn't also take Melvin Upton.

That is a trade package for Ty Ross....not a freaking closer.

Massive overpay by the Redsox. Two top 100 prospects + more.

This is just nuts. Preller has been known to be shopping for outrageous asking prices for a while now. Dombrowski really is an odd one...

AWFUL trade for boston.
.

Not at all. You get Kimbrel for 3 years for one good prospect and a couple maybe's. You DO know the Sox currently have a closer over 40, right? They had to make a move like this. Dombrowski is trying to win in 2016. I love it. Margot is at least a couple years away from making an impact.

Prospects are exactly that.... prospects. Sure they could become something, I think Margot would have done well in Boston but he was a trade chip. Now get some starters, remove Hanley and maybe even try to get Freeman because Hanley at first is going to be a disaster imo.

Tyson Ross would get eaten alive in Fenway. He's pretty good as a #3, I guess. The Sox have enough guys like that.

This is based on what?

The kid is a stud. he may not be harvey or a top tier #2 but most teams dont' have those guys.

He's fine starting #1 at the top of your rotation.

You're stuck with hanely for now.

Considering his throwing issues, playing panda at 1B and moving hanley to 3b (assuming he does drop the weight) wouldnt' be the worst idea.

Sadly you are correct. I hope there is a chance he's gone but I highly doubt it.

Can Panda play first?

Definitely overrated, but you just have to have a good one to win a title. Those high-leverage situation in the playoffs is when they earn their money.

Tyson Ross is an ace now? He's never thrown 200 innings before. He's never gotten a single Cy Young Vote. He led the NL in walks this season(and wild pitches). Your impression is masked by a guy in a pitcher's paradise and a pitcher-friendly division, in general. He's a nice #3. Nothing more. Where do you see "ace-worthy" here?

Yes, but he also has a K/9 over 9.5 and a HR/9 below 0.5. It tends to offset. He had a 2.98 FIP with 194 IP; good for a 4.4 fWAR season. I think you're selling him way short. Also, he's in his prime.
