Eagles stop calling Washington's team Redskins

Apparently the Eagles have quietly stopped using the R word, reporters have noticed.

Chip was asked about it and he said he had opinions but would keep them to himself.

Eagles apparently are avoiding the Washington team name

Here is what Chip said. My read is that he agrees with not calling them the R word.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was asked Thursday if “Redskins” was an appropriate name for an NFL team.

“I have a lot of personal beliefs on things,” Kelly said. “But my belief doesn’t affect what that name is. So they can do what they want to do.”

I assume that you're an African American. You should follow Dr. Ben Carson - "the PC is killing us". We should treat everyone with respect, but not at the expense f just using common sense, my brother. The PETA folks will stop us from using animanl names as nicknames for teams, I guess. Sad!

I'll agree that some aspects of P.C. have been applied where common sense should intervene; it was a reaction to a lengthy drought of inaction and indifference. If I wanted to quote someone about it I would just say "the chickens have come home to roost."

I'd like our society to continue to improve. Being respectful of others and respecting their ethnicity is one of those things i think improves us as a people. Apparently you don't and i don't understand that how/why it harms you.

It doesn't harm me and I don't understand how my/others words offends others. It only offends those who WANT to be offended IMO. Who gets to decide what's offensive to someone? There's only a handful of words IMO that shouldn't be said. Redskins isn't one of them. Nor is Indians/Seminoles/Braves etc.

And I hope you know this PC stuff isn't just about ethnicity.

This may be beyond you, but you're not in a position where such words and actions have the power to offend you. After all, outside of "racist" there are not many words or descriptors offensive to a straight white male, nor are there slurs aimed at people like you used to place you at a disadvantage of pursuing life, liberty or happiness. You haven't made a choice not to be offended as much as you've made a choice to cuddle up with ignorance. As such, this is one of those "err on the side of doing the right thing, rather than plow on in ignorance".

Usually, the folks that are offended, and eventually, the rest of society falls in line. Native American descendants have been picketing Washington games since the early 70s, only to be marginalized by people like you. Only in the last 10 years have more people thought, "hey, maybe we should give a shit to what they are saying."

There's only a handful of words IMO that shouldn't be said. Redskins isn't one of them. Nor is Indians/Seminoles/Braves etc.

Say whatever you want. This is about the Eagles organization making a choice not to refer to Washington's team by their offensive nickname. If you as an eagles fan, get your jollies from calling them by their nickname, I'm not certainly not here to stop you. I've just called people who whine about this "bitches" while you've failed to explain how this hurts you to the point you must whine?

I approach such things on a case by case basis. In this case, it is about ethnicity.
