I don't mind smoking in bars. It's kind of an atmosphere thing. And I don't smoke. I think that having a separate section for smokers is all that needs to be done in a restaurant, and that section should just be well ventilated. When it comes down to it, though, it should be up to the business. They know their clientele. Let them conduct their business accordingly.

And the point of a brewpub is to drink the beer they make while eating the food they make. It' kind of defeats the purpose...

Absolutely it should be up the businesses. But that doesn't happen in nanny states.

It's a little reference contributor to the state of our economy. Small businesses have really low-impact decisions taken out of their hands, and it affects their bottom lines, which affects their ability to hire, which affects the employment rates. Let a restaurant allow smoking in a section if their consumer base smokes. Let a brewpub sell their own beer. Let a small corner store sell the products they want to sell (short of, say, nuclear weapons or something, but I think you get the point), and stop taxing them all to bankruptcy!

I think I was just trying to create an awkward situation. Did it work?

Hey Brian, do you ever pretend you're a wizard when you're in the shower and the water's running off your fingertips?

Why the fuck should it be up to the business? Those laws are in place because second hand smoke is dangerous and you can't subject your employees to something that is a known danger.

It has nothing at all to do with the customers or the business.

It's about the people who *have* to be in that space as their job and them inhaling second hand smoke against their wishes.

And I say this as a recent non-smoker (hey, it's been 4 days!).

Chris, you would like a visit to San Francisco. I feel like beer is a big business here. Lots of breweries. Lots of beer-only specialty bars. My friend owns a bar that sells only beer. Something like 200 different kinds?

Second-hand smoke is bullshit, IMO. That's all I'm sayin'.

Actually, no, that's not all I'm gonna say. Congratulations on kicking the habit. :D
