I think 1 technique does help the Skins because they can try to double team Suh. Dolphins have a very good Dline. I am looking for them to load up on the Redskins right side of the line to see if they hold up. I expect Gruden and McKay to help them in different ways. TE and back to that side, move Cousins. Maybe screen to that side and make them chase.

You might be right on point with that assessment Dad, but because I don't think that they take that approach, a heavy dose of the big guy (Jones) and making them run sideline to sideline will be necessary to wear them down up front. Cousins only works if the run game goes. Miami will stack the deck with eight until KC proves himself.

I don't think that is far fetched dad. Ravens put 8 in the box and dared Cousins to beat them. I can see that happening again. If the OL can give him a little time and Kirk can process quickly they can back them off. However the Skins move the ball either through air or ground they need to try and stay out of a lot of 2nd and longs and especially 3rd and longs. Nothing wrong with throwing on 1st and running on 2nd down.

could see a heavy does of either carrier at te for blocking purposes in passing formation and if the skins were smart compton would be and option for that as well

From Mike Jones' mailbag...

Assuming Trent Williams handles Olivier Vernon on Sunday, how does Washington combat Cameron Wake, Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell? Are we looking at running plays to the left and quick slants?

– Tim Foisie

Wait a second. We’re talking about a game? I’ve got to readjust! Okay, here we go.

The Redskins will indeed have their work cut out for them this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. But the best way to keep those talented players at bay is to utilize a balanced attack. They can’t become one dimensional (run vs. pass, or strictly run to the left). They need a mix to be able to keep those defenders off balance. There’s no way to neutralize these guys completely, but the Redskins just need to slow them down a bit. Establishing the run game, and then setting up the play-action attack will keep Suh & Co. guessing. The quick passing game will help ease pressure on the line (especially rookie Brandon Scherff as he lines up opposite Suh), and will help keep Cousins safe. It’s important for the offense to put itself in manageable downs and distances. Against a similarly imposing defensive front at Baltimore, they had some struggles until the run game got going. That recipe should work again this week.

Actually the run game, or at least Alf, is most effective when Griffin is QBing. Even though he wasn't near the running threat last year or in 2013, that he was in 2012. Defenses would still play pretty honest with Griffin in the game. With Cuz though, they don't focus on him as a running threat at all. Least that's how I breaks it down.

i think we will need the quick passing game to set up the run game . then once the run is established then we hit them with play action

if we come out , run run pass it will be run run pass punt

reed and garcon will be very important as could thompson /jones in the pass game

You are right on point, but that conversation is for another time if ever there comes a time where Griffin is behind center again. This game against Miami is not very difficult to know what they plan against us. In fact every team that we face will use the same game plan, unless and/or until there is a discernable threat in the passing game. Big.... Big......Very Big Statement game for Kirk Cousins.

Let it be so :hope:

Excerpt

Philbin said he expects a great level of physicality and all kinds of exotic blitzes. The Redskins didn’t show a lot of blitz packages in the preseason. But Philbin still expects aggression on Sunday.

Although Barry didn’t direct those defenses, Philbin and his offensive coaches have also spent time studying the Chargers and Buccaneers game tape from Barry’s time there.

What if Cousins just goes off and has a monster game. The narrative for this season could completely change. If they can just give him time to throw. He has the weapons.

Cousins could go out, throw for 340 yards with three TDs and no INTs in a blow out win and the narrative would be

Well the Dolhins took the Skins lightly and the Miami Defense did not live up to pre season billing.

Yeah, the national narrative would be that. But amongst us, we would know we have a chance to compete.
