Because our oline is obviously the biggest concern on offense I figured I would keep the assessment and conversation going.
Lets Start with the good.
LG - Brown
I thought Brown held his own over at LG. It was nice to show that he has some versatility on the Oline and can flop sides when needed. My concern would be that he's a rookie and switching him from right to left would make his head spin a bit and the continuity of the oline being one of the most important things. But hell what do i know?
LT - Robinson
From what I saw he played fairly well last night. He got beat a couple of times on the speed rush but luckily they were 3 step drops and the ball was already out of the QB's hands. Hopefully he gets that cleaned up and it doesn't become a huge problem because he's gonna be tested game 1 from Seattle. I'm a little worried about him because sometimes he seems to lack concentration. If he turns into Jason Smith or Alex Barron I'm going to pull my hair out.
RG - Demetrius Rhaney
Much improved from last week. Maybe his natural fit is at guard. There were multiple plays highlighted where he was downfield throwing some major blocks and giving it his all. He is still getting beat 1 on 1 which is concerning. He doesn't seem to have the strength nor technique to push off his defender. Maybe he's getting his feet under him since coming back from that injury. I doubt he makes the start coming week one. I think Saffold moves back over to RG where he flourished two seasons ago.
C- Jones
I thought he played very well minus the one snafu. He seemed to slide well and call out the right projections. He also might be getting his feet under him coming back from injury. Hopefully he's our starting center come week one and stays healthy throughout the year.
And the bad.
RT - Havenstien
Well not his best game. He got beat bad 2 times that I can remember. He seemed to have slow feet all night and it was highlighted by faulk and holt in the booth. Hopefully our O coord and fisher are smart enough to put a RB on his side on 3rd downs to help chip until he gets comfortable or it's going to be a long long season.
All and all a much better showing from the Oline this week. Which is a sign of progress. WE had a couple of head scratching moments but nothing that can't be corrected. So far (besides Rhaney) everything has been mental and not physical which is good.
On more of a negative note. I think Fisher and his Oline coach are way in over their heads. Instead of having these young guys master the position they are in they keep sprinkling in little changes like switching a RG to LG, or a center to RG. Whats next? They gonna put robinson back to guard and saffold back out to tackle? For goodness sake, stop this musical chairs with the oline, it's driving me crazy.
With that said I expect to see this starting lineup week 1
LT GRob, LG Brown, C Jones, RG Saffold, RT Haven
Week 2
LT Saffold, LG Washington, C Barnes, RG Washington, RT Jones.
(week 2 is just for shits and giggles)
