Here is a little piece about the joint practices this past week.

What they said: The 49ers on the Broncos

Have to admit that I was perhaps too enthused to read this description of Miller by SF OT Joe Staley:

"“His speed and his power,” Staley said. “A guy with such good get off, the power he plays with is pretty much unmatched in the NFL. It’s been great work for us.”"

Just remember 58, we need that for 16+ weeks!

That short piece posted above also reminds me of reading reports several years ago that Elway really liked Kapernick when he was a college prospect. Did Johnny Bronco have the right idea in liking what he saw?

I think Kaepernick in the right hands could turn into a pretty decent QB. His athleticism is off the charts. It is a matter of somebody working to mold him into an actual QB. Have to remember these are the types that Elway likes especially for developmental projects. Osweiler coming out was considered about as raw as they come but his arm skills showed great promise. Siemian who we just drafted the one thing I keep hearing about him is he has an NFL arm that he can make every throw. The problem for him has been consistency and knowing the game. For the Broncos they view these type of guys as developmental types that they can take a few years and see if they can turn them into anything. My guess is Elway realized they would need Kaep to start right away considering the group of QB they had at that time so they thought it more useful to develop the players around the QB position until they could get a QB they actually thought could start right away. Just so happened we pulled out a miracle season that year and of course then Manning came to town.

So some things I am looking forward to hopefully seeing in this game...

DL continues to show they can be that dominant force that causes the rest of the NFL to take notice.

ILB and getting to see Trevathan and Marshall on the field together for the first time

Manning get into a bit of a rhythm. I don't need to see the offense score or anything but just see the timing side of things look like it is supposed to.

The Back Up OL has some very intense competition going on in my opinion. With the addition of Mathis that makes it that much harder to grab those last couple of spots. Very interested to see who steps up and shows the team just can't cut them.

A cut down on the penalties. This was from the 1st unit to the final unit in the past game but they were just going crazy. Now I know officials are told to go a little harder in the preseason to make sure to emphasize to teams that they are not going to take any of this crap but still last week got out of control.

Finally of course can't go without saying something about special teams. I'm hoping one of the punters really separates themselves. I wouldn't mind seeing a nice return at some point in this one either. IT does sound like Omar Bolden is going to be given first crack at punt returns so very interested to see if he can be that guy for us.

Interesting thoughts about Elway's disposition towards developmental projects. Personally, I figured his interest in Kap -- assuming, as reported, it even existed -- was probably due to Kap's remarkable athleticism. After all, 7 himself was a pretty gifted athlete.

Well that is the thing is Elway knows athleticism is not something you can coach. Either a guy has it or he doesn't. I think that Elway while he loves having Manning as his QB still is one that leans towards having a QB that can make something happen with his legs if needed. It makes defenses have to prepare all the more for what could happen. Not saying they want a Michael Vick type of guy but one that can show promise as a QB throwing while still being able to move a bit fits perfectly. That is exactly what Oz brings to the table for us right now and we have seen his development from year one to now in he now actually looks like a competent QB in this league if given the chance. Another year of him with Kubiak and Dennison and I honestly can't wait to see what Osweiler can do next year.

Guess I'm less sold on Oz than others seem to be. Personally, I still hope for PM to go out the way that 7 did ... back-to-back SB winning QB.

Well yeah that is the ideal situation of course! Oz definitely has a lot of growing still to do. To me the biggest thing is I am noticing him actually what looks like thinking like an NFL QB. He looks like he is reading defenses so much better than in the past. He looks like he is actually going through his reads instead of looking to his first read then panicking in the pocket. It just looks like the game has finally slowed down a bit for him.

Now he still needs some time to work on his accuracy. If his first read is open then he is usually spot on but it is when he goes through his progressions that he still tries to just rely on athleticism to make the throw than to actually set his feet and step into it. His footwork is mostly his biggest issue moving forward. He gets that figured out and he could turn into a Joe Flacco type guy for us in my opinion. That is his ceiling and we've seen that is enough to win a Super Bowl.

One thing to remember about Oz is that he has some background in basketball as a 6'8" athlete. That shows up in his running ability. Most big guys (taller than 6'5") can be pretty clunky when they run. Look at Manning as a prime example. Osweiller shows great fluidity when he moves around the pocket. I don't want him to be a running QB but his scrambling abilities could serve him well. Now if he would just stop throwing the ball down and better utilize his height. Way too many batted balls so far this camp!

He definitely doesn't take full advantage of his height. It definitely helps him to see what is going on down field but the 2nd biggest problem he has behind his feet is that he doesn't throw from the top. He condenses himself when he gets ready to throw lowering his actual arm and the height it is released. He is throwing more from the height of somebody around 6'2" or 6'3" rather than his 6'8" body allows. Not sure this problem will ever fully get fixed. I am one that unless things are out of control with the arm motion I'm not big on changing this part up a whole lot as it is the part that can screw them up the most as a QB. I would rather just see him improve his feet first and just see how that helps him.

Good points. Changing a QB's throwing motion can be the ole "damned if you do and damned if you don't" scenario. At 6'8", Oz has a distinct advantage over other throwers that he needs to learn to use better. I didn't realize that he was scrunching like that. I'm going to watch him more closely to see if I can pick up on that too. I do think he definitely looks more poised this offseason so far.

I might have overspoke there. Scrunching is not quite the word I would use. I would use compacting. He looks like he is trying to throw a baseball like a short stop. Since a short stop has to get the ball to first in a hurry they condense their throwing motion a bit to try and get the ball to 1st in time. I think Osweiler knowing that the quickness he gets rid of the ball matters sometimes lowers that arm closer to head level rather than over the top just trying to get the ball out quicker. He does condense his body sometimes but it is more like there is a ceiling that goes to about head level for Brock and he isn't willing to try and bust through it.

A broken record, but hoping for no injuries. Get through this 3rd preseason game and the starters will be good to go against the Ravens.

We have been pretty darn fortunate throughout training camp and preseason games so far. Very much hope that continues. I see these other teams losing players of high caliber when things just don't matter and I remember too often those things happening to us. I know we have lost Clady already so we have not been immune but hopefully that is all. On that note it does sound like Sanders is almost ready to come back to practice. He is expected to practice today and be a full go next week.

I'm hoping to see improved offensive rhythm from our starters and continued aggression from our defense. I'm also really excited to see Trevathan and Marshall on the field together.

I really hope so! He looks great so far and looks like a man on a mission. That can only mean good things for our team. I love that he is finally out of the drug program making it so much easier to sign him. Just really hoping an injury doesn't set him back. So far in his career injury has been a slight problem with a thumb injury causing him to miss a game as a rookie and obviously then the ACL.

Well I gots ta put in my 2cents regarding Oz. Lets not forget the guy has just this year gotten more significant time working with 1st team O vs 1st team D in practices and has played what? 4 qtrs of preseason or less with 1st unit. I think he has looked pretty good (in that still very limited time) with the big boys. When he gets the nod and gets to work on a steady basis with and against the #1`s, he is going to get more comfortable and improve in all aspects including his feet and delivery, etc. I think once that happens he is going to get better and better and be a very good QB for Denver in the future. Once he gets a full off season in as the MAN in practices and gets some meaningful reg season games under his feet, I believe he has shown the potential this yr to be that guy to help this team keep contending. I like what I`ve seen so far with the guy that imo is still more like a rookie in real game expierience action. I could be wrong but if I am its Draft Crazy`s fault! :)
