Everyone says he is a shoo-in for first ballot HOF. Some even suggest that he might be the first unanimous selection.

Such suggestions are nothing less than a slap in the face to guys like Aaron, Mantle, Mays, Maddux, Randy Jonson, Ted Williams.

Jeter is a HOFer, sure. But he belongs in the Compiler's wing. His legacy is a fraud.

Hahaha. That's good stuff. He won't be unanimous, but he'll be first ballot for sure, and should be.

I hate the Yankees, but I'm pragmatic.

How many of those players with a better OPS+ had either/both:
A) Had much shorter careers (I don't think you'd argue that it's harder to sustain rate stats with more PAs)
B) Didn't play a premium position

I will give you that if he played any other offensive position and he did not get the HITS milestone, he would probably not make the HOF... But He did reach the HITS milestone, and he did play SS...

avg HOF SS has a JAWS score of 54.7 and a 66.7 WAR

jeter has a 71.8 WAR and a 57.0 WAR

hes 12th all time in WAR for SS's (offensively, he doesnt even crack the top 1000 defensively) and 12th in JAWS.

Playing a premium doesn't count when:
a. - you didn't volunteer to move from that position when a player who plays that position better than you joined the team.
b. - you didn't play that position better than at least half of the players who also play that postion. (Don't use the Gold Glove reference here because smart posters know that Gold Gloves are popularity contests).
c. - You insisted on holding that position 7 years longer than you should have.

That's why I say let him be in the compiler's wing. Without the 3000 hits he is Al Oliver or Bill Bucker.

Translation: Premium position doesn't count because I'm making up my own criteria to conveniently support my claims.

So, he's got a higher WAR and JAWS score than the average Hall of Fame shortstop and that merits a thread claiming he's a fraud?

I knew that Red Sox fans were obsessed with the Yankees, but I didn't know Mariners fans were too. Hell, I didn't even know there were Mariners fans.
