OF is getting kinda crowded especially by LH bats. This is about to get very complicated ... even without having to factor 1b and DH into it.

Agree there and we sure do not want to mess Blanks around. He has been very consistent right now. So sending him down right now is out of the question.

Nick is not happy, but I think Banny is making the right move.

Went back to see if anyone said anything about this. I watched the 1st 5 innings then had to leave. But this was without a doubt the right move. Give Banister a lot of credit on making the move that was best for the team and not trying to win an individual battle for Martinez in hopes of getting him a win.

I agree 100%. Did at the time too. Honest. hahaha

And I thought Banister going over to him after he took him out was a smart/shrewd move too. Handled that delicate situation correctly, on and off the field.

I was critical of Banister up until the last week. But after he had the team meeting (which was over due IMO) he's made some good moves, and the players seem to have responded in kind.

But contrary to what some seem to think, his team meeting wasn't a fire-and-brimstone, come-to-Jesus type. At least, this is what Mac and EG have offered. Not his style. It was firm, semi-directional, matter-of-fact, but without screaming/finger pointing. Quite professional.

Seems I'm having to eat more than a little crow recently with Banister and the JJ moves over at Cowboyland. Glad to consume too. haha

Banister was quoted in one of the recap articles as saying something along the lines of "I've got to make decisions that benefit all 25 guys, not just the one." That's something the previous regime lost sight of a little too often, in my opinion. But he didn't forget that "one" either. Loved seeing him go up to Nick in the dugout.

BannyRooster definitely seems to react and adjust a LOT faster than what we're used to.

The fact he's reacted at all is faster than what we're used to.

In keeping with my victorious theme I just want to say there is no way we win the game tonight. None. Zero. Zip.

Yeah, I tried to stay away from making that statement but you are right. Too many times we did things in trying to win an individual victory for the sake of the team. I did not care if Martinez was able to get the win or not. I just wanted the Rangers to get the win. And Banister got that last night. I was glad to see it. We have also as most posters on here know kept pitchers out there until things turned into a disaster. Banister has made some mistakes but this is new and he seems to be learning from them. Now he needs to do the next tough thing and it will be tough and send Odor down. This was the first time I saw his defense look this bad and it was bad. Something is going on up in his head right now and he needs some time away from this level.

It's not up to Bannister to send Odor down.

If you look at Choo's projected numbers everything looks good, except hits, 41 doubles, 17 HRs, 69 RBIs, 52 walks (could be higher), everything essentially looks normal (strikeouts could be lower), but he's only getting the extra base hits right now, no singles which is probably largely related to his .189 BABIP

Hopefully he's truly turned a corner and some of those hits start dropping and some of those strikeouts become walks going forward

Edit: and runs are low, but thats due to people's inability to drive him in and the fact that he's not on base very much due to a lack of singles

Martinez gave up 4 hits in the inning ... with 6 balls in play ... so could have been lots worse had Odor not made the two stops he did.

What did him in was the 8 pitch AB to Kiermaier followed by 8 pitch walk to Souza. Too many pitches. He was done. Decision had already been made ... if Loney comes to bat means the tying runs have scored or are on base ... Claudio would face Loney.

Question is ... if Martinez gets Souza out with either ball in play or K in a short AB ... does he come in to pitch the top of the 6th?

Am surprised Loney was first pitch swinging against a pitcher he'd never seen before. As a pull hitter Loney got the proscribed slider away and Loney promptly rolled over on it. Impatient.

Claudio is that junk ball LHP that would kill TEX if he were pitching against them.

It's not up to Bannister to send Odor down.

Technically this is true. It's up to JD to "officially" make this call.

But you know Banister is, at the very least, a key cog in the decision making process.

If Banny doesn't want him, he's going down. Take it to the bank.

Yep, that was one of the elements of the decision to hire BannyRooster that JD has mentioned several times. Working together to make decisions.

Don't know if I'd call Claudio a junk baller. He gets a lot of k's.

What he doesn't get is much respect. I think he will win folks over eventually though.

That's why we're considering moving Blanks to the OF. That way we keep Blanks, MM, and Fielder in the line-up.
Blanks has played some OF before so he should do fine there when needed.

To date, I don't think I've ever been this wrong on a pitcher. Really didn't think he had a prayer of ever amounting to anything, and so far, he's pitched extremely well. Extremely
