Learned a couple things...

Looks like Walton is going to be a solid utility D-lineman. Played DE the most, as J-Mitchell said. Should put the writing on the wall for Stay-Puft Thomas.

Chickillo played 5-tech DE, aka 3-4 OLB. Steelers already have him listed as LB on the roster. And Porter did the Q&A presser. Looks like we can add yet another name to the absurdly long OLB list.

How about Jacoby Glenn going undrafted? Pretty wild. Guess the kid made the wrong decision to declare early lol. He's going to have one hell of a chip on his shoulder now.

Also Kurtis Drummond is still out there for the taking!

Well I guess we shouldn't get too excited for UDFA's... Steelers always find great ones but its vulture teams like Arizona that are already circling waiting for new meat to pluck.

Well...Colbert & Tomlin have completed their draft task.

IMO...the early breakdown.

Dupree...has more athletic ability than any OLB on the roster and any OLB in this draft sans Beasley...if the coaches can turn that ability in to production...they have a winner.

Golson...slot WR is really a starter...defender of that position has to be able to play...they really like his ball skills...solid..I expect him to see the field early this season.

Coates...the player I like...reminds me of Julio Jones without the 4.3...but plenty fast enough to get deep...physical, willing blocker...I can see him getting snaps this season.

Grants...there was the double dip we wanted/expected...another guy with good ball skills. I know little about B10 football, but he the reports are good...ST most likely...I wonder if he's an outside guy.

James...love this pick. Size is ideal...looking forward to his development

Walton...gotta love this one as well...seems like he can play both DT and DE...depth, depth, depth

Chickillo...I wanted a G or OT here, but this guy adds more competition to a group that seems crowded now, but this time next year with the possibly of no Moats or Harrison...depth, depth depth...ZMan and Hojo need to bring their hard hats to camp.

Holliman...Love this pick...not sure why this guy was on the board this late, but really a needed pick

They didn't grap a OL guy, but I think you have to say they covered their base needs well.

I'm becoming a fan of this Chickillo kid more and more. Seems like a true blue-collar/hard-worker type of guy. Always love the kids you can relate to in that sense. He loves rushing the passer, but his natural style is with his hand in the dirt. Should be interesting to see how he handles being upright. My guess... He'll do great. He has the motor that you want, and the mentality that you need. Should create some great competition in camp.

Holliman... I straight up asked myself how that kid was still on the board once his name was announced. 3rd round projection... I thought he would have been long gone by then! But to be honest I was hoping for Drummond there since he was still available. But in the end its like comparing apples to apples. Both kids are ball hawks & hard hitters. Just what the doctor ordered!

It was a smart draft. Great picks all around. Almost every pick seemed to have fallen way past their projections, which you won't hear me complain about! WalterFootball said it best: "The best teams get better in the draft because the "lesser" organizations do stupid things." lol. Loved reading his posts on our draft picks. I'll have to post them at some point...

OL... Didn't draft, but they are pulling a bunch of solid prospects from UDFA. They signed 5-6 in the first few hours of UDFA. Ramon Foster says BRING IT ON!

WF Comments by pick for the Steelers:

22. Alvin Dupree, DE/OLB, Kentucky: A+ Grade
Wow, how does this continue to happen? It seems like every year, great prospects slip in the draft and fall into Pittsburgh's lap. I thought it was going to be Shane Ray or Randy Gregory, but it turned out to be another pass-rusher. Alvin Dupree was getting top-10 buzz prior to the draft. I thought that was a bit too high for him, but I figured the No. 13 spot was the right area for him. I thought the Saints would pick him when they were on the clock, but apparently not. Dupree has tremendous upside and should provide a big boost in terms of getting to the quarterback.

56. Senquez Golson, CB, Ole Miss: C- Grade
Call me shocked that the Steelers chose Senquez Golson over Alex Carter or P.J. Williams... or a bunch of other cornerbacks. First of all, Golson is just 5-foot-9, so he doesn't have the size Pittsburgh usually likes at the position. Second, Golson was a Round 4-5 prospect. This is too early for him, especially with so many better players available at the position.

87. Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn: A Grade
Man, I've correctly mocked all three positions to the Steelers, but I've had the wrong players. I love this pick though, as the Steelers are selecting another talented player who dropped into their lap. Sammie Coates easily could've gone in the second round, but dropped because he, well, drops a lot of passes. That's something that can be coached up. Coates' athleticism, on the other hand, cannot. He has major bust potential, but his ceiling is extremely high.

121. Doran Grant, CB, Ohio State: B+ Grade
Another surprising cornerback pick. Doran Grant neither has the size (5-10) nor the athleticism that the Steelers usually look for in their cornerbacks. However, I think this is a solid choice. Doran Grant provides some value, as he could have gone at the end of the third round.

160. Jesse James, TE, Penn State: B+ Grade
I mocked Jesse James to the Steelers at this spot because I thought he made a lot of sense for the team. James is a great fit in Pittsburgh's offense, and he obviously makes sense at this range. James, a good athlete, might be able to take over for Heath Miller in a couple of years.

199. Leterrius Walton, DE/DT, Central Michigan: A Grade
Good players just somehow fall to the Steelers all the time. Leterrius Walton was a player I had slotted in the fourth round. He was highly productive at Central Michigan and could eventually emerge as a starter on Pittsburgh's front. In the meantime, he fills a need as a depth player.

212. Anthony Chickillo, DE, Miami: A Grade
The best teams get better in the draft because the "lesser" organizations do stupid things. How did Anthony Chickillo fall to the Steelers at the end of Round 6? I had him atop the fourth frame, as Chickillo was both productive at Miami and also athletic at the Combine. He should be able to make the roster.

239. Gerod Holliman, QB, Louisville: A- Grade
Some had Gerod Holliman in the third round, but we were hearing that he was going to drop. I didn't expect him to fall this far, however, and the Steelers ended up getting a potential steal. Holliman's poor measurables really sunk his draft stock, but he could end up sticking for the Steelers, who needed to find another safety.

Kiper's analysis:

Pittsburgh Steelers: A-

Top needs: CB, S, OLB, TE

The Steelers had a really good draft. I think they needed help at every level of their defense, and they not only added a pass-rusher, but they also went hard after secondary talent, which was needed because of how depleted they were in that area. Bud Dupree felt like a steal at No. 22 overall. Given the off-field issues that affected the pass-rushing group, to have him available at that point was a surprise to me. I thought he could have gone as high as No. 8 overall. Senquez Golson is one of my favorite players in the draft, an INT machine at Ole Miss who plays bigger than his size and has the hands I wish more wide receivers had. Elsewhere in the secondary, the Steelers added a steady college performer in Doran Grant out of Ohio State, and then the nation's leader in INTs last year, Gerod Holliman. You think they wanted to find answers in the secondary? Yep, those guys will be green, but at least the depth chart looks better. The fun one to watch will be Sammie Coates, not only because every wide receiver the Steelers take in this range seems to turn into Superman, but also because he truly is one of the physical freaks in this draft. If he can catch it better and add some refinement, you never know what can happen. They looked for some D-line help late (like I said, needs at every level) with L.T. Walton and Anthony Chickillo. Good week for the Steelers.

I think he will. Carnell Lake knows his shit, so if he believes in this kid then we all should. I could care less about height as long as he knows how to get the job done. Deshea Townsend showed us that its possible.

Declared early as a sophomore I think. But yea... what a punk. Thought he was going to get a big payday. Signed with the Bears yesterday.

BJ Finney is quickly becoming a fan favorite. He grew up in a Steelers family so he's having his dream come true. Not just to play in the NFL, but for his favorite team!

Hard not to root for the kid!

Great work Face!

I fell asleep Fri night and really missed the 2nd day...played golf Sat. and during a bottleneck I was able to see the 2nd day onward picks and they were into the final round. Initially I was disappointed with the Golson pick ...size bias, but I read up on him and I watched Ole Miss play Bama and remember his name and the remarks they said about him.

If Gay has to play outside again...this kid might be starting.

Coates...if he's coached up on relaxed concentration though the catch...I think his drops will decrease considerably. Can be a beast in the secondary...30 yds and in...if Haley can devise some ways to get him on a slot CB...he's going to win that battle a lot.

Crown jewel of this draft could be Holliman...still baffled by his drop.
