Just listened to their podcast and they said we were most likely to trade down if MArriota is there. Personally cant see how Jax or Oak doesn't take the trade down offer. They also agreed that Fowler is he 2nd best defensive prospect in this draft. Kiper has Scherff at #7 on his big board. They both said they wouldn't be surprised if we took MM at #5. If we cant get Fowler, I am hoping for a trade down.

They said they "wouldn't" be surprised or "would" be surprised if we took MM at #5?

So lets see, if Kiper has Scherff at #7, but two of the top six are the QBs who i have been repeatedly told we cant really consider in the discussion because they are QB.. That makes him a top FIVE player as we are discounting the QB as we have been instructed. Thus Scherff actually wouldnt be a reach at #5.

Check and Mate.

What? Kiper has Fowler and Cooper ranked ahead of him. You want to take Scherff over the 2nd best defensive player in the draft. Lets just hope MM falls to us and we can force a trade with Cle for their two 1's. It looks like Winston, Williams, Fowler, and Cooper right now as 1-4. Shark would you still take Scherff over a projected trade with Cle for their two#1's???

1. I think Fowler is over rated.
2. I think Scherff would better for the team than an over rated pass rusher who apparently is still learning to be a pass rusher.

3. I think I take a day one starter who will be here over the next six or more years as a starter over a 3rd string WR. After all part of the top five has got to be immediate impact right??

4. In the end I would likely take two first round picks over Scherff even if I knew it likely meant we would again be half assing it as far as the line is concerned.

5. If Fowler is the second best defensive player in this draft, with the fact that he isnt even close to a finished product it kinda makes me wonder. Because most years a guy with Fowlers listed weaknesses would be considered a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Sdie note Dean... you have constantly said Scherff would be a reach at five and also told me that QBs cant be counted in the discussion because they are QB's. So by this list that would make Scherff one of the top five NON-Qb's in this draft.

So would he still be a reach at #5??

If so... please explain.

LOL You have spent 2 months discounting the "experts", singling out Kiper specifically as an idiot. But now that his rating fits your agenda (sort of) you suddenly totally change your tune and trot out this chest pounding post?

That's too funny.

We will be the first team in NFL history that could take a OG with a top 5 pick. He is a reach b/c he is not a true tackle.

Not busting Chops Dad, but actually he is a left tackle. A left tackle who had a down year playing on a scoped knee that he rehabbed for all of 48 hours before being back at practice and playing out the next 11 games. So mind you all he had a DOWN year for his production and is still considered the best O-lineman in the draft playing on a knee that would have had most Pro's out 6-8 weeks.

I think Cooper is going to be there at #5. Im leaning towards him right now. Assuming Williams and Fowler are off the board.

Morgan Moses was a LT too. That doesn't mean anything when he gets to the NFL. If he was good enough to be a LT he would be drafted higher and put in at LT. But he's not, he is a right tackle. Or probably a guard. And I have no doubt he will be a damn good guard. But you don't use a top 5 pick on a guard. Again you are paying $30 for a hamburger, then justifying it because it was a great hamburger and you were really really hungry. Still doesn't mean it was a waste when you could have gotten a hamburger down the road for $6.

Analogies are a great way to make a point, for some reason you want to shoot all of mine down without taking the time to understand them. When you have posted that the 9th pick is the same as the 5th you are essentially saying $20 is the same as $15 when it is not. We are discussing value here and this was a good way to illustrate the difference.

As for Scherff it is widely reported that he is not good enough to play LT in the NFL, this is not news. For 2 months we have been discussing Scherff as a RT or more likely a guard. I'm just staying with this premise. And if he is moved to guard as expected then yes you are paying $30 for a hamburger when you use a top 5 pick on a guard. If he ends up being a good RT then you have paid $30 for a steak at Outback when everyone else pays $20.

again no one knows he will fail at any position he plays on the line . most of these pundits have been so wrong over and over again . the guy can play RT and he will be at least jon jansen . he is the best o/lineman in the draft period so again if a player was hamburger you might be right however the 5 and 9th players on the field are about the same
