This is a good pick up. He should start. Allows us to move Amerson either to the slot or potentially to safety.

Does this mean we can kick tracy porter to the curb

Hopefully he has matured now as he made some comments that got him in some trouble.
All signs are that he is growing as a man and will help us right away.

We Breeland Island and Culliver as our top 2 corners, that gives us the flexibility to explore the best options for slot and possible safety grooming.

This is how it's done, fill needs with FAs and draft the best player regardless of position on your draft board. I do find it interested that their 2 biggest needs, safety and OL, have not been filled yet. But every other signing addressed a need and obviously GMSM saw how bad the defense was last year.

Nice signing but I don't like the money. He is getting paid like a #1 CB but the contract is on par on what the other 27 year old CBs are getting. This should mean the end to HAll and Porter. If we draft Waynes we would be set at Cb for a long time. I guess the origination doesn't seem to be to high on Amerson. IF they were why sign basically a #1 Cb in FA. Where are the Amerson supporters out there? Explain this move.

We can't rely on Amerson but we haven't given up on him. Starting Breeland and Amerson is risky because we can't rely on Amerson to bounce back and Breeland to not sophomore slump. Signing culliiver was safe, he's proven. His issues are hopefully behind him

What Amerson supporters are you looking for? I haven't seen anyone that was happy with his performance last year. But I, for one, am not ready to give up on him. He played much better his rookie year. He has potential, so it would be idiotic to dump him if that's what you are implying. He can play the slot. Hell, we might be able to move him to Safety. Its no always a zero sum game, dean. Its not unusual for a young CB to struggle. That doesn't mean you give up on him. I actually am somewhat comfortable now with our CB situation. We have good starters (not great) and we have depth. Now if we can get some safety help, out defense should be significantly improved.

Come on Dean.... to even contemplate going into the season with Amerson, Breeland and two broke corners would have been negligent to say the least.

The Culliver signing means we are not pressed to make the CB pick at #5 unless he is considered the best player on our board. It does not how ever mean we have given up on Amerson

When your team signs a big time Cb in FA it should send a message to Amerson. I think it sends the message to Amerson that we do not have confidence in you and you are not a starting Cb in this league. If Amerson had the impact like Breeland did last year, would Cb be a need? Would the team go pay 8mil per year for a CB in Fa? You have to answer no to both of those questions.

Guys, I want him to succeed but last year was a major setback. I still want Waynes in the draft but I can see the team taking Beasley. Can Amerson be a #3 Cb in this league? I hope so or I will really explode b/c in my opinion I think Waynes is going to be a great pro.

Culliver really came on last year and was a good corner the last half of the year. If he can stay healthy, you are getting a quality corner. The only possible negative is he has legal issues pending and a league suspension could be looming

I did have some concerns about character issues reading up on him. Also the ghey player comments that he apologized for.

What was the general take by Niners fan on these issues? Was there a feeling he had grown up?

The existence of a 4 yr deal from us that wasn't on the cheap makes me think the Skins consider the legal stuff a non issue. But the character stuff is always a worry. Curious about your thoughts on him in that dept.

49er fans really don't talk a lot about him. My overall impression was that most wanted him back. It appears he has kept himself out of trouble last year, and I have never heard of any locker room issues with him or him not being a team guy. I wouldn't worry about that. I think he will be fine. Not sure if you are aware, but he has pending legal issues in CA. He struck a bicyclist with his vehicle and then fled the scene of the accident. Another motorist followed him to a parking lot. When that motorist tried stopping him, he tried to flee the scene again and almost ran that person down. The police upon arresting him then found brass knuckles in the vehicle, which are illegal in CA. This all happened prior to last season. I have not heard whether any of these legal issues were resolved, but I do know the league had postponed taking action against him until the legal issues were resolved.
