Jake Long would all depend on the price. I would say the Broncos would still have to use a premium pick on a player to back him up to make sure there is a back up plan in place in case he can't make it through a whole season. I do however like the idea of such a great veteran coming in and working with our young players on technique. Just not sure what he will want is what we should give him.

Right now just looking at what is left on the market...Looks like for the Broncos the one player they are pushing hard for is to keep Virgil Green. It has come down to the Broncos and Bears for his services. Don't screw us John Fox!

Beyond him the Broncos are being linked to Jordan Cameron, Owen Daniels, Ed Dickson, Jermaine Gresham for the TE position. Wouldn't surprise me to see us sign 2 decent name TE's off the market.

At the Center position we are being linked to Chris Myers and Wisiewski of the Raiders. Wiz2 is the one decent signing I am hoping actually happens.

Beyond them we have Kendall Langford of the Rams to possibly play NT for us.

I was kind of curious about what position he would play in the 3-4. Apparently he was an end in Miami's 3-4 before moving inside in the Rams 4-3.

If Denver continues to stay realitively quite and since some guys I really thought they go after are pretty much gone, I can only assume Denver is pretty content with the D side of ball with the exception of NT unless the believe Sly and co. can handle it this yr, it looks like besides a WIZ signing they`re going to try and shore up the O-line via the draft. Unless Elway has some big trade plan in the draft it certainly looks like their content with what they have and Manning to give it one more shot at SB this yr without breaking the bank. Must also have a lot of confidence that the new coach additions are going to help this team achieve a higher level of play with the current roster. Could be this is the last shot with Manning before Elway starts his Brock experiment and redirection. Not sure but Elway staying in the shadows with the FA, I have to assume its do or die with what they have and with draft. IDK????

Of course I don't know either, but given that we will probably lose four starters, we might lose Greene, and we do have some cap space, I'm thinking that Elway is waiting for other teams to make the big splashes and then try to hunt bargains after the smoke has cleared. For example, I was hoping that we might go after Ngata, but I don't think so anymore, after reading that he will probably look for more than $30 million in guaranteed money.

Well looks like Green is staying with the Broncos for around $3 million a year! I was hearing last night that he was getting offers closer to $5 million a year so if Elway locked him up for just a little over half the price that other teams were willing to pay then that is huge!

Also with us being silent this shows 2 things. The first is the Broncos just don't have the money like they have the last few years to really go after the big names. That usually means you are paying your own players (as we have with Harris, Miller, and Thomas taking up around $31 million for this upcoming season). So as much as people don't think we have been players in this FA the Broncos already locked up 3 key pieces before this past week even happened. The next thing it shows is they are going to depend more on the last couple of draft classes to actually step up and do something. Elway has been talking about 2 specifically that have to step up in Sly Williams and Schofield for this upcoming season. They seem to have confidence both are going to take a major leap this next year. They also seem pretty high on Paradis and Latimer to be at worst high quality depth players. Them also moving Webster to FS shows they are trying to get the most out of the roster they already have so they don't have to spend big in FA like they have the last few years.

Another player that looks like a lock for this upcoming season in FA is that of Owen Daniels. They said he is in Denver right now to meet with the coaches but is more house shopping than anything else. So looks like we have locked down 2 TE's.

So far the Broncos this off season have locked in Harris, Miller, Thomas, Marshall, Steven Johnson, Tony Carter, Garland, and Cornick. So 8 players already signed with the looks of Green and Daniels being next. All of these seem to be just such quiet moves that make such a difference. We have 4 players that Elway has signed for this next year that all have All-Pro potential. Others are nice depth players with decent potential. I honestly do think Garland could push for a starting LG spot in this ZBS.

So far so good. Looks like the Broncos have locked up the TE position with 2 very quality players that can block and catch for between $2-3 million less than what Julius Thomas will make alone down in Jacksonville.

Really during FA fans need to give it a week or two to actually see how good or bad a team does during this time. Too many people get focused on those first few hours when all the big names are getting signed but really some of the best signings the Broncos have made over the last few years is in that 2nd wave of FA's with guys like Sanders, Knighton, and Montgomery.

After reaching new multiyear contracts with tight ends Owen Daniels and Virgil Green, the Broncos didn't have enough budget room for free-agent defensive lineman Kendall Langford.

The Broncos canceled their visit with Langford and he has now reached an agreement with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Broncos signed Daniels to a three-year, $12 million contract and Green to a three-year, $8.4 million deal. The Broncos entered free agency with roughly $19.5 million in cap space, which means the team will have to hit on some low-pay veterans and the draft.

It looks like we wont even be making a splash this year. I guess this means we don't stand much of a chance of re-signing any of our own guys either.

Which guys would you be referring too that you think Denver needs to resign that is going to impede them going forward Duff?

Nobody major and it wont really impact them that much but I thought Nate Irving was playing really well before he got hurt.

And I know one's a FS and the other's a SS but with us losing Moore I would've liked to see us retain Quinton Carter.

They're not huge players but Irving is a good MLB and Carter is a decent Safety and they'd probably come cheap too.

NFL.com is saying Irving is scheduled to meet with Arizona sometime this week and they're the only team he's visiting as of now.

The Broncos have been active actually just not with any big name prospects. The Broncos have essentially worked to fill out the depth chart with quality players that can contribute on Special teams while also stepping in if needed. I know many of us don't like Tony Carter because he seems to be so hit and miss but for a 5th CB on a roster it would be hard to find one better that can come in and make a big play for the team.

Right now the Broncos really are going to trust that their draft picks of the last couple of years and new coaching staff will be enough to counter the loss of some of the big names. The nice thing though for the Broncos is they should get some very nice Comp picks next year since they are not making any big splashes so far and have lost some guys that have taken some huge contracts. Good chance we get at least a 4th, 5th, and maybe a couple of 6th round comp picks next year already.

Throw in if the Broncos really want to add some more players they can still cut guys like Ramirez, Colquitt, and Caldwell and free up some cap space to make one more decent signing. I think at this point though they are just waiting to see if there are any other veterans cut that they might be interested in or at what price some of these guys might be wanting. Such as Wilfork. If his asking price is decent I could see the Broncos make a decision to go after him. Wisniewski is another I could see them waiting to see what his price range is going to be.

At this point I do think the RT spot is either going to be Schofield or an early round draft pick. There is slim pickings left unless there is a big time veteran cut that is unexpected.

For the LG spot we could see Garland/draft pick/Schofield/Paradis/or a low budget FA. Some guys still left that look decent...Rob Sims of the Lions. He wasn't great but he wasn't terrible either. Could be a stop gap type guy for the team. Another that maybe is my favorite choice still left in the Guard arena is Brian De La Puente. He is a better Center than Guard but gives us some versatility and when he did play this past year he did pretty well.

Otherwise I am not seeing a whole lot of names that I would expect the Broncos to go crazy for. Some other NT talent they will probably give a look at but it looks like they are still planning on Sly Williams to be the starter at the position and are looking more for a guy to back him up.

Denver is looking at former Dolphin and Texan OG/C Shelley Smith:

Shelley Smith - Unsigned Free Agent - 2015 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

The Falcons are also interested. He has experience with Kubiak, and may play center if signed.

I also hear that the Broncos want to bring back Tamme and Unrein, but I would rather focus on Stefen Wisniewski than anyone else right now.

Update: The Broncos also are visiting with Raven and ex-Ram S Darian Stewart.

Not a bad group of players to be bringing in. Darian Stewart fits what the Broncos are looking for in an ascending player heading into their second contract but hasn't quite made a name for themselves. He ended up actually ranked higher than Rahim Moore so while Moore might get the big bucks Stewart might actually be the better player of the two. Now obviously that would be the homer in me coming out a bit but every year in the league he has improved just a little bit so I think he has shown the best is yet to come in his career. If nothing else he is great safety depth and a guy that will push Kayvon Webster for a starting spot.

Shelley Smith looks like a good depth guy. He fits the ZBS really well and his best years were when he was with Kubiak as his coach. Like I said he is a good depth guy and one that adds some nice competition for camp. You usually like to have about 15 OL players heading into Camp to compete for around 8 spots. Right now we have 9 guys under contract so needing at least another couple FA guys, a few draft picks, and then a couple of UDFA's and we should be set to see what they can do.

Adding a veteran safety and or o-lineman would definitely be nice. I would also like to add a veteran NT, since we don't really have a player with experience at that position and it is supposed to be an unusually difficult position for a rookie.

Also found what I thought was this interesting, short piece on the potential value of having signed Daniels:

What It Means: Broncos add Owen Daniels

Rahim Moore signed with the Texans.

Pot Roast is so out-of-shape it is causing teams to pass on him. Even Del Rio and the Raiders passed. The guy might be costing himself millions.

The Denver Broncos have officially signed Vance Walker. Looks like the deal is a 2-year $4 million. Not bad for a nice rotation piece to the DE group. He is exactly what Elway likes to find of players hitting their prime that have shown glimpses of ability. Sign them for a low contract then let them go when they blossom and take the big deal.
