Disney is pure fiction. After nameless hunter bagged Bambi's mom for table fare, my friend, RRE took out Bambi with his '80s Toyota Celica while rounding an acute outside curve of a rural road at too high a rate of speed. To his credit, little Bambi didn't freeze mid-roadway. He sprang for the trees on the downside slope, but the fishtailing Toyota jumped the shoulder and struck the deerling square. Impact broke Bambi's leg and hip and fragged his innards. RRE showed him mercy with a blade thrust to the heart.

He tossed the spotted little carcass into his trunk, brought it home, skinned and butchered it that afternoon. Sadly, the kidneys, liver, and heart weren't salvageable. He wacked Bambi's frame into big pieces and braised him with garlic, carrots, onions, and taters in a big pot over coals (It was a good excuse to sip bourbon late into the night). Later, he mixed ground chilies and seasonings into the shredded left overs for Colorado style venison chile.

RRE tanned the little spotted hide and had a tailor add it to a leather jacket. Unfortunately, that jacket was stolen from RRE at a huge house party he attended just a couple of years later. Who knows what remains of it, now...
