63 - 93 versus 62 - 94 (63-94 if they close out Minnesota tonight)

So, if Arizona wins they are .5 a game worse than us, its pretty much a dead heat, 2 left for us against Houston and 4 against Oakland

Arizona has 2 left against Minnesota and 3 against St. Louis

I'd say thats about as even as it gets,

Texas has to lose that extra game they have against the A's. As you know the tie does em no good. Idk who could have foreseen this lineup winning 9 outta 10.

We're 3 behind Minnesota now.... And 2 behind Colorado. We need a loss or two. If the team wins out, they might not even get a top 5 pick.

That doesn't mean the D-Backs have to win 4-5 games

they just have to win 2 more than us

If Texas wins 2 more games, then yeah the D-Backs have to win 4.

Just don't see Texas dropping 6 in a row after this stretch.

Fitting end to a forgettable season. Lose half our team, our best pitchers and even our manager quits on us and there is still one team worse than us. I feel your pain.

It is too bad Wash couldn't have hung around for another week so we could have had a worse record.

Think there is definitely truth to that statement.

I know..... Would be nice to lose the next 2 against the Astros. So we can still focus on spoiling the A's playoff chances without falling out of the top 5.

Well I think Nick will help out the cause.

We face Hammel, Kazmir, Samardija, and Gray in the OAK series. There's still a chance. Maybe ARI gains a little momentum from the win last night

I wonder if Terps has heard anything from his scout friend about Tomas. I read that the Phillies also had a private work out for Castillo before he signed with the Red Sox and they were lukewarm on him, and always preferred Tomas.

The Rangers will have a private workout for Tomas on Wednesday, a source tells Ben Badler of Baseball America. The Rangers and Phillies both had strong contingents at Tomas’ showcase, Badler continues, while the Mets, Giants, Yankees, D’Backs and Padres were well-represented also. Among the Padres executives in attendance was new general manager A.J. Preller, according to Badler.

"But one major-league evaluator suggested there are questions about whether Tomas will make enough consistent contact to be successful against the higher-quality pitching he will face in the big leagues. Tomas hit 15 homers in Cuba's Serie Nacional in 2012-13 but went deep only six times this season, possibly because of a shoulder injury.

"There's a lot of swing-and-miss there," the evaluator said. "Frequency of contact is going to be an issue."

"Jesse Sanchez adds that Tomás is agile for his size and has a strong throwing arm. One big knock on the outfielder's game seems to be his swing-and-miss tendency. Per Badler, he may be able to handle the big league lineup, but for optimal development, Tomás would have to be placed Triple-A for a time. Another Badler report notes that Tomás's swing had some holes (uppercut; trouble handling quality breaking balls) that U.S. power pitchers might be able to exploit. Ideally, the outfielder would adjust like Jose Abreu did stateside."

"While Rusney Castillo is more dynamic in physical skills, Tomás is about raw power and youth. He is no Abreu, but Tomas' positive attributes should be enough for major league teams to give him some serious offers. A team that is willing to put up big money on Tomás is also betting on him to stay healthy, be open to swing and approach adjustments, and, of course, not to fall into the fast food trap."

Heard the same issues about Abreu

I didn't hear it to this extent about Abreu. Also, Abreu didn't have an injured shoulder that knocked his power numbers way down in his last year. Abreu didn't cost nearly as much as Tomas is expected to make either.

I was all in on Abreu, but Tomas gives me reason for concern. He might be fine, but I am not nearly as eager to get Tomas as I was Abreu last offseason.
