Jim Bowden has a wish list for what he'd like the new commissioner to do and it's pretty interesting. I'll post the main topics and lines.

1. Improve the pace of the game
Reduce the number of warm-up pitches to shorten time between innings.
Institute a pitch clock.
Award intentional walks with a simple signal from the manager. Do not make the pitcher throw four balls.
3. Implement the designated hitter rule for both leagues
5. Reshape some draft rules
Allow trading of picks.
Institute a worldwide draft.
Eliminate the association of free agency with the draft.
8. The All-Star Game should no longer determine World Series home-field advantage
10. Ballpark changes
New parks for Oakland and Tampa Bay
Affordable tickets everywhere.

If you've got Insider, it's worth reading the entire article. And for those who don't and you're interested in something specifically here, let me know and I'll post all pertinent info which isn't here.

Number 10 is stupid. Tax payers have to pay for those stadiums, so unless Jim Bowden has the money to give those residents he can shut the hell up. Teams don't pay for their own stadiums fully. They make the community do it.

What they need to do is eliminate the wild card and just go back to two leagues of 13 teams. Get rid of the Rays, A's, Diamondbacks, and Marlins.

26 teams would make for a more competitive league with less diluted talent pool. Hell I would be in favor of losing more teams. California has no need for 5 professional baseball teams. Chicago and New York don't need two teams either. The talent pool is so watered down now. The American league is horrible this year.

Actually, if you had read the entire article, part of what he is proposing is the teams have to own their own stadiums and the tax payer should not be held hostage.

You're suggesting in lowering the # of teams, he suggesting going to 30 teams, and make all the leagues equal number of squads, with no wild card. I kind of like your idea better in doing the same thing but reducing to 26 teams. And why force a city like Oakland to have a team when they don't support the good one they have now?

Here's what his former teammate and now Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo had to say about him:

“He’s a really high quality baseball player and a really good person,” Castillo told WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford through a translator Friday. “He’s got a ton of power. For his physique, he actually moves pretty well. He’s pretty quick for a big guy.”

“I would compare (Tomas’) power to Abreu’s power. Tomas has a ton of power,” Castillo told Bradford. “Maybe not to that degree, but if you want a comparison, especially to another Cuban guy, especially when it comes to power, that’s the guy.

“He’s not the same type of athlete that Cespedes or Puig would be. He’s a bigger, stronger guy. That’s not to say that he isn’t an athlete, but he’s probably closer to Abreu athletically than Cespedes or Puig.”

We have 30 teams already.

And good about the tax payers. It's crazy.

He's so wrong on needing 32 teams...UGH. The NBA could use about 4 less teams as well. Maybe they could work a relegation process in where professional club can be promoted or demoted to minors. I would love something like that.

I hadn't thought of him. I like it. I think Latos is a possibility.

I like Latos as well. Cashner would be a good MORP behind Yu and Holland. Latos would be a damn good pitcher behind those too.

Yea. He will likely cost 100MM, but I was wrong about Abreu. Don't miss on another Cuban player! Leo hasn't hit for power, but he's been a 3 win player this year.
......although.....$100 million is a ton of dough to spend on an unproven talent. We do have Rua who is looking quite good and we could look for power in someone like Gattis, who would be a ton cheaper...spend the big bucks on pitching. I'm conflicted!!!:gaah:

I was all in on Abreu based on what I had read about him. I was crushed the night we lost him to the White Sox especially given the price they got him for. I am not nearly as crazy about this guy. His shoulder injury scares me some and he just doesn't have the hype behind him that Abreu had. I would be cautious about signing him.

I really like #3. It is time for the NL to get with it.

Stupid NL lovers will never let that happen. I hate the NL. It's the most boring thing on the planet. Having to take Clayton Kershaw out of a game because you want to pinch hit for him is the absolutely stupidest thing on the planet. Pitchers pitch and hitters hit....
