Oh no question there were other issues. But that game plan was put in for one reason, because the staff knew this OL could not protect well enough to run a conventional offense with 15 yard patterns. They were forced to scale it baxk and they needed to complete 12 shot passes in order to reach the end zone. That's not how you win in today's games, you need to get bigger plays. The few times they took a shot the pressure arrived before the play had time to develop.

Now they won't face a guy like Watts every week but the pass protection will be an issue every game. And that is a huge problem that limits an offense . Redskins fans of all people should understand what a good OL can do for an offense and how crippling a poor pass blocikng OL can be.

Oh, I agree. But putting Moses in right now will only make our offense worse, not better. We can do better than Polumbus, no doubt. But he is not the reason why we lost.

Agreed on Moses. Putting a guy in who is not ready is yet another panic move suggested by fans who do not watch them every day. Not only will you get worse performance from the RT spot but you can severely damage his development. There is a reason prospects start in the minors before being thrown in to face Clayton Kershaw. On the field training is a really stupid idea.

That's my point. As challenged as polombus is at pass blocking, he is a very effective run blocker. Why kill both parts of your offense just because the best DT in the game ate him up? BTW, JJ was moving all over the line. It wasn't just polombus that struggled with him. On the pass he knocked down, he was over Chester.

One of the consistent problems we have with pocket protection is the middle collapsing into RG3. When was the last time we saw RG3 able to step up into a pocket? That's what you need to execute on longer patterns. This is a failure at the C and G positions, not RT.

Totally agree it was hardly just Polumbus. In fact this was my assessment of the OL last week as we argued Griffin/Cousins as posters kept claiming this offense was loaded and if it failed it was all on the QB.

I'd say average is being generous. I see Trent who is solid, a LG who Browns fans were laughing at the Redskins for giving him that kind of deal. You know it's bad when a Browns fan is laughing at you; Lich is an average center and the right side is downright bad. One good player out of 5 is below average. I think Griff will have a real problem with pressure and that hardly makes his assessment fair if he struggles under pressure. Most young QBs have that problem.

All in all it's a good offense but that OL and it's pass blocking make if far from the great offense some here are implying. Not even close really.

Again the weakness this OL has in pass protection completely handcuffs the play calling. It forced the coaches to call a conservative short passing game. Got news for you, it will take DCs exactly 7 days to develop schemes that will jump those short routes. We saw this before with Gibbs 2.0 and his 8 WR screens a game.

Fans were thrilled when Mark Ry;ien was inducted into the Ring of Fame. Well deserved they say. Me? I want to see this QB playing under conditions even remotely close to what Rypien enjoyed before passing judgement.

I get your point and it is valid. I have 2 thoughts. First, we won't face JJ Watt every week. Second, we have to do a better job of play calling. We need to use the run more to set up the pass. That includes RG3 on a few designed runs. We were gaining 6 yards and more a run. We were only behind by a score most of the second half. If you want to stop a team from pinning their ears back and rushing blindly (which Hou did most of the game) run the ball down their throats and have your qb run it around the end a few times. That will bring 7-8 in the Box and freeze the D every time RG3 rolls out. This will give Robert more time and open up the deeper routes.

Clearly ribeye is not the answer or he would already be in there. He knows the scheme and his teammates play. You consider long once you are comfortable that he has mastered the offense. Probably by mid season.

Agree. I saw Morris blow out a 9 yard run to start the season, by the second possession I was screaming for more carries. There is no excuse for 14 carries in a close game by a back who was averaging nearly 7 yards per carry. And again totally agree that they won't face another JJ Watt, which is why I was saying this may be the worst matchup other than Seattle for this struggling offense to start the season with.

There was plenty of blame to go around and just some bad breaks. Lich stepping on Griffin's foot and then Griffin not eating the ball on that brutal fumble. The pass to Roberts, a great throw on the run but a tick too late, was an inch from being overturned. Garcon simply has to come down with that other long ball, he mistimed his jump. And of course the special teams. The blocked punt was the play of the game.

If Chester continues his rapid decline, then Ribs is the answer, short term anyway. Ribs clearly isn't great but he can easily be better than Chester if Chester continues to suck this bad. I make the switch in week 3 if Chester plays that poorly vs the Jags. Also there was some concern with Chester, he didn't start one of the preseason games (week 3?) and Long and Ribs got the starters reps to see where they were.

Polumbus isn't really declining, he just is what he is, a 6'8'' road grader run blocker who struggled against any good pass rush. No one on the current roster will be any better right now. That's we why draft a tackle in the 1st or 2nd round next year.

Regarding the opening post which posters were arguing that Polumbus does not suck? He's been Public Enemy #1 among Redskins fans for 2 straight years now

I don't think anyone believes that we can't do better than polumbus. The question that has been debated is should we bench him now for Moses. I believe that would be a serious mistake at this point in Moses' career.

Totally agree. I just look at the title of the thread and am trying to understand the opening poster's position. It's as if Polumbus sucking was a revelation that some of us are just now coming to understand and something he has known all along. Um, this is not news.

Then ribeye or Long should be starting now, case closed. If one or both are better than Chester, it makes no sense to not bench him.

But what if right now, today, they are not better? I've pretty much bailed on Ribeye, I'm thinking he will be no more than a career backup. I have had big hopes for Long since draft day but it does nobody any good to throw him out there before he is ready.
