I thought we would have been able to put more pressure on Fitzpatrick, and yes Rambo probably just cut himself

Fitzpatrick did a very good job of getting rid of the ball. 3 steps and it was gone. We never even really got close. Disappointing. I think Haslett forgot that if you are going to blitz, you need to apply close coverage to the receivers otherwise the QB will just take the hot read every time, which is what fitz did.

Was hoping Rambo would improve. Looks like he hasn't.

What I found disappointing was Rambo appeared to give up and just half heartedly tried to tackle the WR.

Its rare you hold any team to 3 points in the NFL. Much less a team with Arian Foster and Andre Johnson on the roster no matter who the QB is for them. If we manage to score one out of the two times we turned it over inside the Texans 10 yard line, that is a different game. Special teams eventually lost us the game, but you can not really be upset with a defense that gave up a total of ten points in a game.
im just nit picking at rambo. the defense did a great job today. now we wait for the offense to click, which could take a few weeks.

chester and polumbus are better than moses and long. so hell no to putting long and moses in. but chester and polumbus do suck. say i can say they suck all i want even knowing that they are our best options.

Agree. Was Alfred getting about 8 yards a pop running to the right today. :noidea:
No excuse for only 14 carries.

OK, let's really examine this whole right side of the OL thing. What does it mean that Moses is not ready and Long is close? In perspective here's what it means to me. Chester and Polumbus have absolutely ZERO upside, where both Long and Moses do!! Now, how will either Long or Moses get to take steps towards that upside?..........Work! actual game experience, which is the best teacher. Many have stated that playing them is a detriment to the developing offense, but that is exactly why you play them. They are the future so far on that side, holding them back only delays that development in favor of two mediocre players who have seen better days and will not be part of the future. So the question is quite simple: play the pups and get your QB killed or play Chester and Polumbus get your QB killed and delay the development of the pups?

There has to be a way to improve the pass protection, those "bums" are solid run blockers but simply just don't have it in the passing scheme. LOL@ starting Moses....lol!:lol::lol:

I know Polumbo is a joke with no upside while Moses is a joke with an upside. These are our choices unless B. Allen is given a clue and makes a move.

moses simply isnt ready. he gets too upright and he hasn't adapted to the speed of the game yet. until he shows improvement in practice he wont see the field. if we put him in now he would give up plenty of sacks and do worse than polumbus would. its called developing ur prospects, every sport does it.

OK, just to be clear, Moses will do exactly what Polumbus does (too slow and gives up plenty of sacks) only he'll be able to learn as we go. Never, ever, ever thought that I would be in a fix where I'd have to admit this, but right about now, gulp....ah...er....I'd prefer that we had...uh....ahem.....Shar Pourdanesh instead!! Think I'll go out and drink a bucket of holy water now!!!

Have we completely written of LeRibeye as an option? I see Chester as the weaker link than Polumbus, and Ribs is in his 3rd year. Ribs was the primary backup today and Long was inactive, so clearly Ribs is ahead of Long on the depth chart. Why not stick Ribs in there and let him play and develop. Chester is never going to get any better, he's on the downside. He wont face Watt every week but ordinary guys can beat him too often.

I'd give Ribs a shot, and next year I'd draft a guard, tackle and center with our first three picks. Lich, Chester and Polumbus are all inadequate.

Forgot about Compton also who was active while Moses was not. It would be great if you could just plug two guys into the position. Sadly it is not always that easy. Why not plug those two in yet? They are learning and OJT is not always the answer, meanwhile those young guys are doing lots of drills that will be repetitive to them but in the long run will prepare them to play.

I am not going to blow smoke at you and say we have a great line but you have to understand what we do have. We have a very good run blocking line. Morris was gashing their D on the right side. They were getting 8 and 9 yard chunks per run. Sadly Griffin got his foot stepped on and we had a fumble that was lost. More sad was that their was a hole there.

It is up to the line coach, the HC and the QB to get the line some help when needed. There were three sacks in the game, one by Watt. The others were recorded by a safety and a linebacker. Our blitz pickup was not good in this game.

Chester and Polumbus are horrible but let's face it, neither of those guys were even challenged during training camp by LeRibeus/Long/Compton/Moses.

Chester and Polumbus are starting because , sadly, they are by far the best options.

I knew this was possibly the worst matchup other than Seattle to open the season. Where is the poster who was trying to tell me this offense was loaded and the offensive line was "average"? As I posted their TE is always hurt and they have no real backup. This offensive line is not even close to average, it's way below average and was the reason we lost that game.

But damn that was frustrating. 14 carries for a back averaging 8 a carry in a close game is ridiculous. Drew Brees sees his receiver one on one and throws it deep, most of the time his guy seems to come down with it. Sadly ours (Garcon) jumps too early and fails to make the catch. Deep sideline pass to Roberts was literally an inch from being an obvious reversal. They march it right down the field to open the second half and blow a simply hand off. Special teams costs them 8 pts.

Just really really frustrating.

Stymiee, this isn't correct. You forget that Polombus is a very good run blocker. How many times did we run to his side while he was blocking JJ and we picked up huge yards? Bringing moses in now kills not only our pass protection, but our running game.

As for letting them learn on the job, how has that worked out for Rambo?

Guys, GET REAL! The OL was not why we lost that game. It was the 8 points on STs and the 2 fumbles in the red zone. We played arguably the best DT in football (maybe ever) and he only had 1 sack and an couple of hurries/hits. This is not a defense of our line, it needs to be upgraded. But you are looking for blame up the wrong tree........Bringing rookies in right now will only make us worse, not better. Maybe as the season progresses, we can work them in.

Did you not just see JJ Watt almost singlehandidly win that game for Houston?

I did. The guy is a stud. And he does this to every right tackle. Even so, we still should have won that game easily if not for errors that had nothing to do with blocking JJ Watt.
