They built a 5 game lead because the A's have been 22-27 the last 49 games. And I hope they try that strategy in the playoffs of playing a 9 inning game with no starter. Would be hilarious. Playoffs and regular season are not the same animal. They aren't going to be able to compete in a 7 game series let alone a 5 game series with their rotation.

While the playoffs are different I think they will be certainly able to compete even without Richards.
