The damned Rockies keep losing...don't think 9-17 will do it...let's go for 5-21 (after glancing at our Sept schedule, this just might be achievable).
We have 26 games left, 23 of them are against teams with a winning record (KC, SEA, OAK, LAA, ATL) and all of these teams are in the playoff hunt. 3 at home against the Astros is our only sub .500 team, and we've done so well against them this year....

...#1 pick should be in the bag...

The Astros fired Bo Porter

Don't know much, nor have a strong opinion on Porter. However, the team has shown improvement over the past 2 seasons and he's getting the short end of the stick IMO for an organizational decision.

I guess they decided that the improvement was due to the players getting better and not due to them being coached up. I sure wish our organization could understand that your team can do well while the manager is not doing well and vice versa. Wash should have been fired long ago, but the team was improving. Somehow the fact that sometimes a manager can need to be fired from an improving team escaped management.

MLBTR when trade was made:

Mikolas, also 25, has 27 big league relief appearances to his credit over the last two years. The right-hander spent the bulk of the year with the Padres' Triple-A Tucson affiliate, where he pitched to a 3.25 ERA with 5.9 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 54 relief appearances. Mikolas came from San Diego in a late November trade along with Jaff Decker but he didn't stay long. He entered the season ranked 25th among Padres prospects, per Baseball America, who noted that he has a good curveball and can touch 98 mph with a fastball that doesn't have much movement on it. BA wrote that his ceiling may be a middle reliever or setup man, but he has a high probability of reaching that level.

I think Baseball America might have been wrong on this one. I would say his ceiling is a #3 starter. He's only 26. He just needs to learn to be consistent. He's still learning to be a starter.

His ceiling could be that, but lets be real, he's likely not even a ML starter based on his current results, plus he's 26 he probably isn't getting much better, but its certainly possible though

I'm hoping he turns into a good inning plus, power arm outta the pen personally.

If Ogando can come back to form and somehow manage to stay upright - no small task for him - that would be terrific to have these two guys throwing heat.

Really, don't see him as starting long term. Fast ball hasn't enough movement, and his consistency is lacking.

For whatever it's worth, the Phillies are in the 9th and working on a combined no-no.

There's a chance, maybe it's a small one, but that's why it's a ceiling. There's no way you can say he won't be a #3. It's an opinion and a prediction.

I (we) actually can say he won't be a #3, its also called an opinion.

I honestly don't see it, based on what I've seen thus far, based on the current arsenal and assortment of pitches, he's a bullpen guy to me

But that's what the rest of this season and ST will be for, to figure out who these guys are... I don't see Mikolas making the cut in the rotation, bullpen or scrap heap is his future IMO

Gosh.....wish I had said this.

I'm hoping he turns into a good inning plus, power arm outta the pen personally.

That's what I said. Him saying he won't be a #3 is an opinion. He straight up said he won't be a #3, and there's no way you can be that definitive. Derek Holland sucked at the beginning of his career too, and in 2012. There's a chance he could progress. He hasn't started much in his career.

Good news everybody. We called up Michael Kirkman. I am looking forward to seeing Bonilla though, who we got in the MY deal.

Saying it definitively or not doesn't change the fact that its his opinion, you're arguing semantics now

The guy hasn't even been good at AAA. It feels like he's over 30 (he's only 27) because we've given him so many chances. This has to be his last, doesn't it?
He's proven, at least to me, he can not pitch in MLB. Walking papers are in order. too many youngsters needing equal chances IMO.

Bonilla hasn't been very good at all, don't see what the excitement is all about, he's just being fed to the wolves at this point b/c he's already on the 40 man roster

5.51 career ERA in over 117 career AAA innings

Wait, I think I get the strategy...we use Kirkman as our new closer... On rare occasions we carry a lead late into the game, trot him in and voila! Instant loss..!! And the #1 pick is ours!!! Brilliant strategy JD!

You aren't understanding. I said it's his opinion. I think you are arguing for nothing. I said his ceiling was a #3. I doubt he ever becomes a #3, but there's a CHANCE he could. He said he doesn't agree, and that he'll NEVER be a #3. I just don't think you can say he'll never be a #3. That was my original point to him.

4.1 ERA this year, and pitched well last night. 3.4 ERA over his last 9 outings. Yeah his numbers aren't great, but there's not much to get excited about this year. Except getting to see some youngsters get a shot.

Opponents are hitting .198 in the last 28 days off of him, and .216 in the last 90 days.
