Thanks for the ring. Enjoy losing to the Brewers and Cardinals.

EDIT: I typed "rings," plural, the first. Gettin' ahead of myself a bit.

Id rather sign a more versatile backup anyway. I'm not sold that Edgar would play second and, even with the magical world series, he is pretty much useless. Thank you Edgar, the $18 million was worth it.

Now, who comes in? Burriss? Izturiz? I sure don't think Fontenot, as do the giants, think he can backup ss and 3B.

Four viable FAs left:
Cabrera, Guzman, Lugo, Punto.

He does, but the San Francisco Giants don't. Maybe the plural was thanks for the all the rings that are now worn by current Giants. Can't say he is completely responsible for all of that.

I don't think Renteria remembers how many games he played in during his last contract if he expects to be a starter anywhere, but good for him that he found a job.

Looks like, according to John Hyman at SI, the Giants are going to fill the backup SS spot internally.

Hello Manny Burriss.

Hello Manny Burriss.

I am OK with this.

He has the defense and the speed, his bat is very questionable, though. I think it is time for him to shit or get off the pot, and this is his throne time.

If he completely falters, Crawford can be called upon with his +++D and potential bat. Rohlinger is also an option with his AAAA bat.

Isn't SS the infield position least in need of backing up? Tejada tends to stay pretty healthy (although obviously he's aging).

It's 2B (Franchez is brittle) and 3B (Panda is chunky) that need backing up more, correct?
I guess DeRosa is the 3B option and Fontenot the 2B.

Exactly. Neither play SS

Tejada is a ironman, but he is also 86 years old. He is also the emergency 3B option, so if Panda falters, Tejada moves to 3B, and who plays SS?

I think Burriss as the early favorite, with options given to Crawford and MAYBE Adrianza to grab the job out of camp is an OK situation. I expect Burriss to take it out of camp and Crawford to be a frequent flier on the Fresno-SF express all season.

Definitely, maybe even no. 3 due to its pure excitement. If you want a moment that makes you incredibly proud to be a Giants fan and gives you confidence right away that our team is for real, then this is it:

Top Pitching Performances | ATL@SF: Lincecum shuts out the Braves, fanning 14 - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia

As far as I'm concerned, the top 10 SF Giants moments can all come from this season due to how long it has been.

I just hope Manny spent his rehab time lifting some weights. The guy was the weakest hitter in the majors in 2009.

I'm glad ColinColby didn't write that.

You bastard...

Uh...nice one. :)

Here's one that will certainly solidify my jinx reputation: Panda sure has lost a lot of weight this offseason!
