How early is too early for him? Do we need to wait until we get closer to the season? Is he a 3rd rounder at this point?

Someone will take him in the 3rd round... In both MBBRL leagues he went in the 3rd... But there are some owners that will take him in the 2nd... I think 2nd is too soon, but if you want him you need to be aggressive...

I just say this. These are some really fine fantasy football players in the MBBRL and if they took him in the third round in both that speaks volumes.

sometimes risks payoff sometimes they don't... But the gronk upside is well worth a 3rd round pick... He is better than anyone else you can get there...

Dont fear the injury, most players miss at least one game... I would rather have a Great player for 10 games than a more consistent player for 15 games... Remember you also get the points for the replacement player...

If you think Gronk will play 8 or more games then he is worth taking a risk on..

5-6 round would be the position I would start thinking about Gronk. At this point with the TE position being so deep I might just pass on him. TE is turning into the QB position in none superflex leagues. So many quality options you don't have to spend a 1st-3rd rounder on Graham or Gronk anymore. You can focus on the WR and RB position.

If you are not planning on looking to Gronk until the 5-6 round or you are going to wait on Graham until the third then you might as well take them off your board and look to other options at TE because you won't have a chance to draft them. Realistic shot at these guys will require at least an early 2nd round for Graham and a 3rd round for Gronk (same for Julius Thomas). It is fine strategy to wait for different TE if 2nd/3rd round is too high for you to take a TE.

Where Gronk belongs to be drafted will never happen. A guy that misses that many games, may not even be ready for week one, (and if not week one, when? Anyone have a clue? ) had no business being drafted in the top 3 rounds, but that's where you've got to take him if you want him. Gronk will never be in on of my teams unless he falls to the 6th or so.. or if he ever finishes a 16 game season.

That's what I meant with 1-3. You more than likely see Graham go in the 1st or 2nd. You can see Gronk going anytime after that. We are doing a start up dynasty now and at 5.05 Gronk is still available. Graham went 2.11 the superflex might have dropped Graham down a little bit. Orange Julius is available still as well. But like I said I would be happy with any of Cameron, Reed, Rudolph, Green, Davis, Eifert, Ertz or Olsen. The TE position is insanely deep with quality players. That's not even counting the grizzled vet Witten or the 3 rookie TE's. Though I have avoided Ebron in my rookie drafts so far.

Decided to go against my thinking and snag Gronk at 5.06. So far I have Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Alshon Jeffery, Keenan Allen and Rob Gronkowski. Superflex 12 teams dynasty start up. Will be working hard to put together a decent 2 RB though. Might have to reach on Freeman in the rookie draft.

And the sneaky Marcedes Lewis. Just look at last year's finish. If he was your playoff starter he got you 10, 10, and 11.

So I guess my point is he's well worth it in the 3rd...risky, yes, but TE is the easiest position to replace. And if you don't replace him, you have at worst, the 2nd best TE.

Gronk has missed 14 games in his first four years in the league. Here's how that stacks up against games missed during the past four years by the RBs people are taking at the top of drafts:

Charles - missed 15 games
AP - 7
McCoy - 6
Forte - 5
Lynch - 5
Murray - 11 (in only three years)
Foster - 11
Martin - 10 (in only two years)

Now, TEs usually don't miss games like RBs do, so something's definitely up with Gronk... but he's been dominant at his position like nobody else when he plays.

Thanks wilwhite. Looks like it was perfect timing. The very next pick was Julius Thomas. Hopefully I started a little TE run.

Taken in the 3rd in my league; but not by me, I grabbed jimmy graham in the second. I would've waited to the 4th or 5th.

My main guys: LeSean, Graham, Julio, Luck/Foles.

The very next pick was Julius Thomas.

Very good. Gronk makes Brady better, but it looks like it's Peyton who's making Thomas better, so in a couple of years Gronk should be a better value (as long as he spends at least some time on the field).

Uh..... What? After Graham there is a big drop off, then after gronk (if he stays healthy, he could be on Graham's tier) and Julius there is another big drop off. The rest of the tightends are wildly inconsistent. I agree with focussing on wr and rb, but your statement on TE becoming like QB in its depth is incredibly inaccurate.

Actually per week there isn't a huge difference between Grand and Graham, year to year.

We found the owner who uses his first round pick on Jimmy Graham . You have Graham as the clear cut #1 TE. Then by last years totals you have 8 TE's within 100 points of each other. That's leaving out Gronk, Ertz, Green and Reed all players who could see huge jumps in points this year. From overall use to overcoming injury concerns. The TE position should be incredible deep.
