I really hope choice can figure it out. What's his line look like down there?

He seems to always figure it out in the minors but the majors is another story. Maybe he will be Cruz-like as that is the way he was for a while then he finally figured it out at the major league level.

From DMN on our minor leagues:

Jorge Alfaro, C, Double-A Frisco: Alfaro has played in just six games since being called up from Class A Myrtle Beach. So far, so good. He's 8-for-24 in Double-A with eight RBIs and has home runs in back-to-back games. The most interesting but overlooked component of all this? He started Saturday's game at first base for Frisco. The recent reports on Alfaro say he's a slugger who is still learning how to be a catcher. Is the game at first base an indicator of anything? Right now, it's too early to tell.

Michael Choice, OF, Triple-A Round Rock: In Round Rock, Choice has picked up his average, OBP and slugging from his paltry MLB numbers, but a lot of the same problems still remain. His slash line is .252/.358/.388 and he's striking out in 26 percent of his plate appearances, which is actually higher than what he was doing while with the Rangers (22.8 percent). In his last 10 games he has just three extra-base hits — not good for a guy who was a high prospect based on his power.

Alex Gonzalez, RHP, Double-A Frisco: Gonzalez built on his stellar season in his last three games. Combined, he threw 17 innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out 15 and walking five. Gonzalez has actually seen his ERA drop since his call up to Double-A. He has a 2.32 ERA in 11 games in Frisco, compared to a 2.62 ERA in 11 games in Myrtle Beach earlier this season.

I noticed Alfaro played first and JT Wise caught. Wise is doing well also.

The Rangers will not promote top prospect Joey Gallo this season, ESPN’s Jim Bowden tweets. The 20-year-old is hitting .255/.347/.568 for Double-A Frisco after putting up even more ridiculous numbers earlier this season at Class A+ Myrtle Beach, and he wowed fans at this year’s Futures Game. But it sounds like we’ll have to wait until 2015 before we see him hit home runs in Arlington. He’s struck out more than three times for every walk so far at Double-A, and he has no Triple-A experience, so there could be merit to allowing him to spend at least a couple more months in the minors.

I answered a question asked the other day without thinking about it. Someone asked who we all thought would be called up in Sept. I said Jackson and Gallo. After thinking more about it I bet Choice, Rua, Ross Jr., Patton, Sardinas, and Telis are all strong possibilities. I'm not sure if they will call up Jackson.

Good. Sounds like they're handling him right. He's an incredible talent, but seems like he could be broken easily if mismanaged.

I didn't see any way they were calling up Gallo.

Everything I have read indicates Alfaro is a good catcher. He has played some 1B most of the way up through the system. I am glad he has another position to play, but I think he primarily plays C in the big leagues. This is his 18th game at 1B this year to go along with 18 that he played at 1B last year and 17 the year before. Joey Gallo has played 6 games at 1B this year also.

Alfaro's offensive ability translates to an elite power hitting catcher. Probably just average for a 1b.

Yesterday we were discussing the rotation for next season and none of us mentioned Ross as a possibility. I think his last outing wasn't that great, but he had been doing well prior to that one. He definitely has to be considered. This year is the first time he has gotten extensive work in the upper levels of the minors. He had only had 38 innings above A ball as a starter before this season. It will be interesting to see how he does in his final few weeks in Round Rock.

Or it could be when they prove they are ready. Sometimes guys start the regular season like Elvis or Kinsler and then sometimes guys come up during the season like Davis, Moreland, Profar and Cruz when he came up in 2008. Sometimes guys like Odor are sent down after ST and given a further chance to prove they are ready and then are brought back up a few weeks later.

Injuries are so frequent with this team that that many coming up due to injury should not be considered that unusual though.

The August additions that I mentioned could also be brought up to replace guys traded at the trade deadline.

lol one ESPN poster is blaming Pettis for Rios getting his ankle tweaked yesterday. I blame Marwin for his shitty ass throw to home that was off line. That's what happens when you play baseball. You try to score and the other team tries to throw you out, but apparently ESPN posters do not agree.

I dont think we'll see Jackson, Chi Chi & Gallo in Arlington till September of next year. (unless there are injuries)

Mazara just made a huge jump for reasons other than his abilities - Doubt he'll see Arlington next season. Could be wrong.

Alfaro starts earning Options after this season (when he'll be placed on the 40 man.) He'll probably see Arlington in September next year.

Ortiz - Biggest question mark of the bunch. Was just drafted... but I think 2016 might be a little soon.

There's a business side of things too. Team control / money / etc...all plays a factor in things.

I think you've hit on something here which many fans forget about, and it's very important in the grand scheme.

Asking those guys to give baseball insight is kind of like polling special needs people for president approval ratings.

You could be right, but there usually are injuries to the pitching staff.

To the Rangers credit they usually bring up guys when they are either ready or needed. They usually don't do a lot the roster manipulation stuff just to maintain team control longer. I guess they could start doing that, but I haven't seen a lot of evidence of it in the past.

It is fun to guess about these things though. I didn't even attempt to guess what they will do with guys like Rua, Asher, or Ecihkoff.

I should have included newly acquired Jake Thompson. I think he makes it here in April 2016
