So there seems to be lots of talk about Josh Gordon getting 8 games, or at least "not the season". A very long, two day appeal finished up last night, and you know what? With Ray Rice only getting two games, (and the reaction Goodell received), do you think that could lessen the penalty on Gordon?

Who drafted him in our Suicide/Coma again? ...possible great work!

How will this news (and the next two weeks of it's noise) effect your draft?

For me, I think I'm still out, because getting him in R13 is probably out of the question and even if he gets 8 games, who's to say he doesn't screw that up by Halloween.

If Goodell allows the reaction he got to effect his decision. . That isn't good news for Gordon, least not in my mind. And they've pretty much said it's all or nothing. If this "second hand smoke" bullcrap actually pays off.. He should be of the book of this 3rd strike. If it doesn't, he's just gotten his third strike. I still think there's the issue of the DUI and the possible player conduct infractions to deal with after this though. Even if he gets off the big one, he's still got a suspension coming in some form.

Personally if he gets off, given his recent actions knowing everyone was watching his every move, I'll be much more disappointed with the NFL than in the case of Ray Rice.

I think that the only reason the appeal hearing was worth the NFL's time was due to the fact that Gordon's B sample tested under the allowable nanograms of THC in your system, and that the A sample tested like 1-2 nanograms over the allowable amount. Both samples came from the same pee, so there looks to be a little wiggle room in Gordon's favor there. Also, Gordon had passed like 15 or 16 tests prior to this last failed sample, so it did seem as though he was working towards the right path to stay clean.

I'll be much more disappointed with the NFL than in the case of Ray Rice.

I would, without a doubt, need to see the inside-the-elevator footage before ever claiming that the suspension length for a woman beater was more or less disappointing than the suspension for a pot head.
At least one of those guys is only abusing himself......
But that's more of a morality issue than a fantasy issue.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a full year suspension for Gordon, so hopefully I can still draft him in the late rounds of my keeper league!

And I was the one that took the gamble in the coma league on Gordon. Other guys that I was debating between when I made that pick: Ace Sanders (has his own issues now), Charles Johnson (CLE WR with eerily similar physical attributes to Gordon, minus the drug thing), and the RB3 for HOU - I think his name is Alfred Blue or something like that.

I'm certainly not condoning dismissing the seriousness of what Rice did. I'm considering Rice, who had never had an issue vs a guy who is on his last leg, still effing up.

totally agree here Treff - does anyone know if the failed pot test and DUI fall into the same category type of infraction with the NFL?

seems like a few players have been able to avoid lengthy suspensions due to some lawyer terminology around their bad behaviors.

I could be way off. . But from what I've heard. . The drug policy and the personal conduct policy are two separate issues. And the CBA is pretty specific on the drug policy, 1st time equal this, 2nd time equals that. .ect.. which is why Gordon is up shit Creek. It doesn't differentiate between weed, roids, coke, or anything else. .. For better or worse. Whereas the conduct policy has a lot of gray area for Goodell to either show leniency, or bring the hammer down depending on circumstances, previous history, seriousness of the infraction. . Yada yada.

8 game ban that means he will miss 9 of the 14 regular season fantasy matchups... What round do you think he will be projected at to play at most 5 regular season weeks...

I think he will go higher in keeper/dynasty leagues then in redraft leagues. In keeper leagues I'll bet he goes in 10th round or so if he gets 8 games and in the 13th if he gets the whole season. In redraft leagues I can't see drafting him higher than the 12th round if at all.

P.S. I drafted him in the B coma league.

Not sure Gordon is a slam dunk this year anyway. New OC. Sounds like they want to run run and run some more. And if Manziel starts about the time Gordon can come back, well, for same reason some are not as excited about Watkins... (QB play).

You guys are all forgetting that he has a DUI to answer for as well. His weed suspension may wind up being only 8 games but he may get a heavier penalty than usual for his recent DUI due to his being a habitual substance abuser whether said substance is legal or not. Nobody is talking about that one yet since the weed suspension is the current hot topic of the day.

I don't get this outcry over Ray Rice getting two games. For one, this is not the first time Gordon has been suspended. He also had not one but two things going against him this offseason. It's Rice's first offense. If it was Gordon's then he would likely have gotten less games off or as many as Rice. Gordon had a dui last year and got two games. Its clearly to me the fantasy owners and people that don't pay attention to the quantity over the quality.

The outcry really isn't about the Rice suspension - it's about the Rice suspension in comparison to a weed suspension.

I like how Rice is handling things, and I don't like how Gordon is handling things, but: I don't much care if a player smokes weed on his off days, even if The Man doesn't like it; I have real trouble rooting for a guy who punches his wife.

A DUI lies somewhere in between.

Rice is getting me back in his corner bit by bit - and Gordon is losing me. But still, even four times smoking pot to me doesn't warrant much more than a fine. Ring him up half a season for the DUI - that's okay with me.

Bad CBA.

They, the NFLPA, should have thought of that during negotiating that CBA. As is, I don't look at as a "weed" violation. .I look at it as a violation of the policy. . Which has a black and white punishment scale. Is weed a huge offense? Nope, but is violating the rules you agreed to? You bet yer ass.

AGENT: Okay, and sign this page, too.
GORDON: My wrist is getting tired.
AGENT: I know, it's a lot to sign. But remember you're getting a lot of money.
GORDON: That's right.
AGENT: It means you agree to abide by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
GORDON: What's that?
AGENT: The NFLPA is looking out for you.
GORDON: Word.
AGENT: But you can't, for example, smoke cannabis.
GORDON: Smoke what?
AGENT: Cannabis.
GORDON: Why would I smoke a can of piss? That's nasty.
AGENT: No. Hemp. Marijuana. Reefers.
GORDON: (shrugs) Don't know what any of that is. Just so long as I can fire a blunt.
AGENT: No firearms either.
GORDON: What? Shit, man, guns scare me.
AGENT: Just sign it, Josh.

One thing that I found funky in this whole issue is that the World Anti Doping Agency moved what they considered the allowable amount of THC/mg up from 15 to something like 150.
I realize that when the current CBA was structured, the WADA was also at the 15 mark, but it just seems so foolish of the NFL to have something like that set in stone, and to be so unwilling to concede.
Now, I will say, the same report was saying that the WADA's own scientists opposed them moving the limit so high (pun intended), but still, the NFL and NFLPA need to find a way to be more flexible in their contracts.
