I am not sure what we are trying to do with Ross. The last time I looked he started at RR and pitched very well. Then came in out of the BP last night and pitched badly. They need to make up their minds what to do with him and leave it alone. We do this too much.

It was Ross's day to pitch - as RR had been banged the past couple games b/c of rain. So pitchers (starters) are having to piggy back one another.

Its what happens in the minors. Minors is more about innings vs. actually starting a game

That actually sounds like ST more than the minors. I knew they had rainouts but thought they were playing a DH. But if that is the reason and we have a plan for Ross then fine. But the plan cannot be about innings. It has to be about working every 5th day or coming out of the pen.

Innings/every 5th day = same thing.

I read your post as you wanted him "starting" vs. "coming out of the pen". In which case - sometimes "starters" come out of the pen to get their work in due to circumstances. (weather, rehab, etc)

IE...rehabbing pitcher *starts* the game - throws 2 innings...then LuJax pitches his normal allotment of pitches since he was scheduled to start that day.

Doesnt always happen - but occasionally does.

The Rangers have averaged 2.7 runs while hitting .189 with runners in scoring position over their last 11 games. Carlos Pena (3 for 26), Rougned Odor (4 for 29), Michael Choice (5 for 58) and Alex Rios (1 for 22) are among those mired in slumps.

Adrian Beltre, however, has been on a tear, going 15 for 27 with seven RBIs over his last eight contests. The star third baseman is also batting .462 with nine home runs and 18 RBIs in his last 13 games versus Baltimore.

Looking at Jackson's line from yesterday is a perfect example of what you're speaking of; 76 pitches.

Funny how the situation has changed. We were all trying to send Beltre down the river. But we are desperate now.

Agreed.....I was certainly one of them. I kind of held/hold some ill toward him b/c of his attitude. To me he is, hopefully was, a total head case. Million dollar talent with a head full of cotton candy.

Every one of these young kids should use Robinson Chirinos as an example. A year or so ago this guy was a nobody but he has made himself into serviceable MLB player. He doesn't have a ton of talent but what he does possess is on the field every night he plays.

Plus he really was put in a place to fail when called up last year when we had him play first at times. But he stuck with it and has surprised everyone with how he handles himself behind the plate.

He may move Soto out. Ankle and knee surgery does noy cater to over weight catchers. Chirinos has got all the raw talent. Little more experience handling pitchers and we have a catcher.

Soto will be a FA after this season, so him moving on may be a forgone conclusion.

But, if he comes back strong, shows some pop, then we may try to work Chirinos more at 1st. After all, we may be in need of a 1st baseman next season. At least a part time one for sure.

Maybe it wouldn't be all bad to have Soto & Chirinos sharing the catching in 2015. Besides, Soto's value may not be very high on the FA market.

I think Chirinos value is as a catcher because of his arm. We can live with his offense with that kind of catching but I think we would not want that offensive production as a 1b.

Agree Wastin. Can't see converting him to 1b with Prince and MM around. His value is a catcher and will start for some one. Soto will be gone shortly in my opinion b/c of two major surgeries that do not favor a catcher( ankle/knee) plus he will be FA next year and most likely will not be serviceable the remainder of this season to any extent.

Yeah maybe so. But our situation at 1st is precarious to put it mildly for 2015. Who knows, at least at this point, how Fielder is going to rebound from a more than serious surgery. And let's not forget he was a liability defensively before this. And although MM is cheap, do we really want him here next season? I don't quite honestly, and I've been a defender/supporter for the most part. But his constantly being on the DL has sent me overboard. I'm done with the Mitchster.

Maybe, just maybe, Soto shows well for the remainder of the season after the AS break, and will at least give us another option to consider.

We've got some serious issues to be addressed between now and the start of next ST IMO.

Just wondering if anyone remembers what we got for Carlos Pena way back when?

Does anyone know how JPA is doing in the minors?

I didn't express my point very well. I wasn't suggesting converting him, just using him as our backup - like maybe 30 games or less - for next season.
