Agree... this guy is an established reporter and he's not going to risk his reputation and livelihood on something he isn't completely sure about. I think there are a few possibilities...

1) He's right and LeBron goes to Cleveland.

2) Someone very close to LeBron believes strongly that he is going to Cleveland and is feeding info to Sheridan as if its a done deal even though it isn't.

3) Sheridan's being catfished by someone very good. Yeah, probably not likely, but who knows.

If Windhorst or Brousard make the announcement that they're 100% sure he's going to Cleveland... that becomes breaking news on ESPN and gets picked up by major news networks everywhere. "LeBron to Cleveland" becomes a headline across the country.

Sheridan reports it and the major news networks largely ignore it. He does have less at stake... but he still has a lot at stake. This is a big enough of a story that no one will ever forget how much he screwed up if he's wrong.

Not sure I agree with this. People are very forgiving, and will forget about this in short order. He can survive being wrong because nobody is really going to call him out on it if he is.
