It angers me that baseball loses such a potentially great coach at a young age because of a reckless behavior like chewing tobacco. I truly hope there are more campaigns to curtail the usage of smokeless tobacco. It's dangerous and foolhardy to throw caution to the wind. Such a pure shame...

As much baseball as I played I could never understand why so many messed with that stuff. It was almost like here is your uniform and your tobacco. I agree with you 100%.

I've tried the spitless tobacco, and I have to be honest I enjoyed it, but I also enjoy living so I decided I better not get hooked on the stuff. I have a friend that chews and I worry for him that it will lead to something bad.

I didn't know that the Twins are possibly going to release Kubel, or already have. There are conflicting reports. That seems strange with the deadline approaching. I would think they could get something for him.

A cautionary tale to the dangers of smokeless tobacco

Ya know, we hear so much about teaching moments in sports these days, referring to moments in time when coaches have an opportunity to really make an impression on young players/teams, etc. in influencing them positively.

Yet, there hasn't been word one today - to my knowledge anyway - in this "educational moment" when it comes espousing in what took such a wonderful person and player from life.

Roger Clements was interviewed during the CWS and collectively between himself and the announcers they spent 10+ minutes paying tribute to Mr Gwynn. Not word one was addressed to what ultimately killed him.

Squandered opportunity to a captured/targeted market.

I think the issue is it "allegedly" caused his cancer, at least thats what Gwynn said he thinks ultimately caused it
