Here is an abbreviated list of high schools that have the mascot Redskins. The majority are in Native American communities. Are the all racists?

A descriptive moniker by itself is not racist. There must be intent meant and taken. Apparently there isn't any racist intent taken by those the name honors as they use it themselves and do not find it an issue.

Very few is bothered by the name from your point of view. PC police, no PC police, there are plenty of people offended by the name.

it isnt my "point of view" . those are the facts done by polling

and again those facts you seem to ignore because they dont jive with your preconceived notions

come back here when you have some actual facts and stop with the pot stirring BS

OK - I will try to keep an open mind on this. Instead of just making claims that are meaningless on their own - please provide some links that show that a large % of Native Americans don't like the name. Not looking for thoughts from some loud mouthed politicians or bogus Native American leaders. Looking for actual surveys of a large amt of Native Americans (not a handful of protesters (probably paid) in some remote area) who oppose the name. That would be a starting point.

OK - your turn. Waiting...

So how do you square the fact that every poll taken of the native american community, the VAST majority do not see a need for a name change? How do you square the fact that many native american high schools have adoted the Redskins as their team name? What facts do you refer to? The only group clamoring for a name change is the PC crowd and the opportunistic media types who jump on the bandwagon once they smell a little blood.

Did I say at any point that the majority of Natives were offended? Nope, I just said there are plenty. Plenty can mean a lot of things. You say yourself that the VAST majority are OK with the name which obviously means that some are not but since you seem to need proof that some are not, here you go:

Native American Groups Launch Photo Campaign Against 'Redskins' Name | ThinkProgress

Sorry it wouldn't link. I'll say again that I don't relaly care if the name gets changed, it doesn't offend me, but there are enough Natives that are offended that you shouldn't just sweep it under the rug just because you like it. As far as what I said about facts, that was directed at one person's general douchiness, and not necessarily about this thread.

No, sir, it is your point of view and the collective point of view of the VAST majority of Redskins fans who simply do not like the attack on their teams nickname and do not want to change what they've always known. All that you guys seem to want to see is that there are Natives who are OK with it and want to ignore that there are Natives who are not. You can think that I'm just trying to stir the pot, I'm fine with that, but I'm just giving my opinion.

Plenty of people are offended by public displays of affection by two gay men during the draft. Does that mean people that are offended have the right to protest the Rams for drafting Mike Sam?? Plenty of people are offended by women having Children out of wedlock. Does that give us the right to tell an unwed pregnant woman that she has to have an abortion??

No one is saying they dont have a right to be offended. But they DONT have the right to try and force the team to change its name simply because they feel that the team name is an insult. Especially when the team has never used the name to describe these pansy assed liberals who feel that every one should think and feel as they do.

You say there are plenty. Again, we have all asked you, where are you getting your "facts"??? How many is plenty? We have offered real data. You talk in generalities and act like your generalities are facts. You represent exactly what is wrong with our society. You blab on with no understanding of what you are talking about but you think you are right because, in your mind, you have taken the moral position. Now. Just like the opportunistic media types like Bob costas. Where were you and Bob ten years ago? 20 years ago? All the sudden it is an issue you jump on. Without knowing the facts. Typical.

Polling numbers are facts !!! Data gathered , get it ? Not my point of view . you give us the ambiguous term plenty and supply no data whatsoever and proceed to tell us how we are all wrong .

the minority does not dictate to the majority in a republic (we arent a democracy ) . they have rights but they dont get to tell the majority what to do

hitler was in the MINORITY in his stance about the "master race " yet in a fascist state the minority can overrule the elected will of the people

now TBBISHOP if you want to step up to the big leagues on this board you better bring more to the table because right now you look like a feeble troll . why ,you ask ? because you havent been here before commenting on football issues , and you sidestep facts you cant refute on the name change issue

most of us are from troll hell also known as the espn message boards so far you carry all the tell tale signs of trolling .

we have given you a chance to step up to the plate and you are failing

answer shark's questions , answer joy's questions with some facts and then we will see

if you cant then we all will know the truth about you and i will act accordingly

Here we go again! All this story does is rehash the same old BS. It simply consists of blowhard politicians (who apparently can't find time to fix real problems) and bogus Native American leaders who actually profit off this kind of thing. Where are the actual groups of Native Americans in this story? All that I see is a bunch of rich guys fighting for air time.

I don't even think he read his own article. It just proves the point we have been making. The native american community couldn't give 2 shits about the name. Its the PC crowd telling them they should be offended. God forbid they think on their own.

Even to further your point the so called "chief" of the Onieda Nation referenced in his article comes from Onieda, NY. Guess what the mascot is at the Onieda HS? They are all hypocrites looking for a payday and press.

Casino Kingpin and Fake Indian Chief Targets Redskins | FrontPage Magazine

That guy is a piece of work and a total fraud. He also represents a very, very small group of Native Americans (and is using this opportunity as another way to help line his pockets & boost his ego). Again - my biggest issue with this is giving credit to clowns like this guy.

Found this on twitter.

Native Americans 67% in agreement that the Redskin's team name is a racial or racist term or symbol. 12% neutral, 20% disagreed.

Apparently there were 400 surveys assessed. Why so few Native American though? And why not more people involved in the survey?

Statistics are only as reliable as how they're measured. This is , however the first I've seen of this type of result.

PC police are gaining traction and are going to have a field day, if this is legit.
