Sorry dude, but until about 10 to 15 years ago you did NOT see many young white suburbanites rocking rap music. And until Eminem actually hit the scene right around that time, Rap was commonly refereed to a hood ****a music.

I disagree, I'm a former white suburban youth and I've been rocking rap since the early 1990s.

I'm fine with this thread, I just disagree about being able to sue Eminem for taking advantage of black culture. I think he was just making use of his God given talents.

Just as I disagree with Native Americans being able to sue a football team over a word, or launch a formal protest campaign over some one wearing a headdress who happens to not be a native american chief. Sounds silly as fuck for me o sue Eminem because I think he is just another white guy who can talk fast and keep up with a beat and pretended to be black for the first portion of his career right??

that would make you the exception to the rule since MOST of the kids I went to high school with in rockville were rocking Bon Jovie.

The. Thread. Isn't. Close. To. Being. On. Topic. What do Eminem and Dre have to do with Indian Headdress? I'm gonna venture a guess and say, nothing.

Its completely different, Eminem isn't actually trying to be black, while this guy was making a mockery of the Native American headdress. I doubt if he acts Native American all the time, only for this photo op. Eminem doesn't try to be black BTW, he just raps. Nothing wrong with that.

:agree:

There's a big different between what Eminem does everyday and what this guy did for a photo op. i don't blame the Native Americans for being upset. He did it in a form of mockery, not because that's just his personality.

:bullshit:

Trust me, I wasn't the only white suburban youth who was rocking it to rap during the early 1990s.

Also, Bon Jovi was a 1980s thing, in the 1990s everyone in the suburbs was into rock and rap. That's when rap really started taking off, that's why Snoop Dogg became the legend he became.

How is he making a mockery of the Headdress?? Was he wearing in in redface makeup???There was no mockery in him wearing a headdress. Anymore than there is mockery implied in a white person getting an African, Asian or aboriginal tribal tattoo. Which by the way THOSE had to be earned as well in most of those cultures. How about the white kids getting their ears gauged and doing tribal piercings... are they MOCKING the cultures they stole those practices from??

Well then you must forgive me as in the 90's I was a bit busy over seas and didnt have time to see what was being Rocked in Suburbia as i was kinda making sure there was still a choice to rock that. :)

Does he wear Native America attire all the time? Nope, he just did it for the photo op. Kind of funny how you think Eminem is taking advantage of black culture but you don't see anything wrong with him wearing the Native American headdress for a photo op. I could respect the position that he wasn't taking advantage of Native American culture until you went off on Eminem.

That's cool, just so you know rap was rather popular in the suburbs during the early 1990s. We (white suburban youths) just didn't have the balls to rap until Eminem came along, but we did enjoy rap before him.

Him wearing the Headdress had nothing to do with Mockery. I threw out the Eminem thing as a comparison of how silly it is. Could care less what Eminem does as I dont buy his music. The concept that he was mocking Native Americans by wearing a headdress is ridiculous and we both know it.

Fine, but you hurt your argument by bringing Eminem into this. Also, I don't buy music anymore but if you refuse to listen to his most recent album than you're really missing out.

:agree:

that is why i brought up the saints and the pope thing . yeah i am catholic but in reality i could care less if they wear my religious symbol while cheering for their team because it is about supporting their team and not mocking

same with the headdress . he is supporting his team period

so i hope lions fan gets it . by the way the lions symbol is offensive to me because it makes lions out to be evil animals and encourages their demise by stereotyping :laugh3:

exploiters :laugh3:

Snoop did it without the backing of a millionaire. As did most of NWA, Run DMC, and quite a few other rappers.

Snoop did it with the same guy that Eminem did it with, Dr. Dre. Snoop also had one of the greatest rappers ever, The DOC, to teach him how to put together a song. Eminem on the other hand had an album or 2 BEFORE he hooked up with Dre.

You've said this twice now about Em pretending to be black. He doesn't sound black, he certainly doesn't look black, especially with the Blonde hair he rocked at first, how you or anyone else thought he was black from the first time you heard My Name Is is beyond my comprehension.
