Haven't been around in a while, so figured I would stop snooping without logging in and provide something relevant involving FA. Workings are in the Title....

That looks a lot like the numbers I predicted. I'm upset he's going to Denver though.

Not upset at all. He's a waste on our team but a good signing for Denver...hopefully Manning gets that SB this season...if we don't shock the world.

Interesting tweet sent out about Talib...

He's missed 25 games the last 3 years and has never played a 16-game season. (Kevin Seifert)

There is always a team that thinks they are 1 or 2 players away from a SB title. It used to be us. Denver may rightly be that team, but they are paying a steep price for an exceptional talent that is historically a part time player. There are a lot of potential issues that go with that signing. Good luck Denver, glad it wasn't us that coughed up that contract.

talib didn't even get 10 mil per season. The Broncos already won Fa with talib and Ward. Verner is off the board too. The skins are bringing in c. Graham from the Ravens.

Lol. You mean the "Offseason Signing Title" that the Redskins won several times just prior to having average to terrible seasons? These moves sound eerily similar to the ones made by the Eagles several years ago when Vince Young tagged them as the "Dream Team". What happened then?

The NFL is not the NBA & things don't always work out great in this type of situation. As mentioned by others - Talib does not have a good track record in regards to health so I would be careful about proclaiming him as a savior. Also - Denver lost the SB in large measure due to their offense & the Manning choke factor. I also expect other AFC teams to be on their heals - if not surpass them.

I am fine with the Skins FA approach at this time & will just let things play out before passing judgement.

Beyond the Redskins I always identify the Eagles from a few seasons ago (i.e. Dream Team) as the one that took this approach. Prior to this time IMO they took the perfect approach to building a team by building from within & getting rid of players as they hit the downside of their career (Westbrook, Dawkins, etc). Then they went with the Cerrato approach and had less than desirable results. This approach can work, but it generally does not.

you are on crack. Denver is loaded with talent. Should be the #1 seed again in the AFC. If you are a Denver fan you should be ecstatic with Talib and Ward. Both major upgrades.

OK...I don't normally agree with you Dean but to compare the Eagles signings a couple of years ago to the Broncos is insane.

Denver had the best offense in NFL history and they are getting Ryan Clady back from injury.
Denver's defense was bad...really bad. It cost them two years ago against Baltimore and they won the SB...now they have TJ Ward. Now add in Aqib Talib and they are formidable in the secondary (especially if they get DRC back. We haven't even mentioned Demarcus Ware going there today...imagine him going back to a 3-4 and being opposite Von Miller (coming back from suspension).

OH...these are definite upgrades to their team and they were in the SB last season. This is the kind of team where you sign a big talent player and deal with the cap in a couple of years when Manning retires.

The NFC is better than the AFC. The AFC just has the Broncos. Too say they are not the best in the conference is nuts.

Good - enjoy. Go root for the Broncos. I am not suggesting that they are not a very good team. However - the SB showed that they are far from perfect & these sexy FA signings don't always work. Let Denver fans be ecstatic - who cares? I am not stating how this will work for the Broncos - just stating it is not a sure thing.

That was my only point in comparing with the Eagles (some of you must have also forgotten that the Eagles were pretty dominating several years ago - except that they cracked in the big games - kind of like Manning in every year except when he faced Grossman in the SB).

So - you are guaranteeing that the Broncos will be in the SB next season? This from the same guy who was lining up Cousins to be the future of the Redskins. We will see.

Denver was missing two of it's top three players. Ryan Clady is an unquestioned top five OT and Von Miller is a top two pass rusher in the NFL.

If you don't think these are good signing, then you are insane.

They are good signings in the sense they bring great talent to an already talent rich team. However, it 2 years, when Manning is gone and these guys are getting long in the tooth, they will be cap strapped. Clearly they believe this is the last year they will have a legitimate shot and are going all in. Can't say I blame them.

That's the exact point. When you are close to winning the SB, you do everything you can to win it. That includes big signings. I'd sacrifice three years in a huge rebuild for a single Super Bowl...wouldn't you?

yup. The goal is to win a SB. That's all that matters. They clearly made their team better with these signings. They have to to a SB favorite for this year.

Just to chime in about the Cap situation real quick. Most of the Broncos signings are on 1-2 year deals with Free Agents they bring in. This means most of the older veterans are off the books in 2 or less years. Just like the Ware signing yes it says 3 years but essentially it is a 2-year/$20 million signing. So he comes off the books in 2-years. Talib is signed to essentially a 3-year/$26 million deal. After 3-years he can be cut with little to no dead money. Ward even can come off the books after 3-years with little to no dead money.

The other part of this equation is beyond a handful of veterans the Broncos have most of their roster on rookie contracts. Half of their starting team right now is still on rookie contracts. This is why they had/have so much Cap Room this season. After all these signings they still have close to $10 million in Cap Room plus an extra 5 if they want by cutting 2 back up TE's that are overpaid. In reality next season actually the Broncos even with all of these signings and Manning still on the books have close to $70 million in Cap Space so again they don't handcuff themselves with backloading contracts which means every year they have quite a bit of cap space if they want it.
