Can somebody remind why what Trevor Linden's biggest crime was back in 2005? Wasn't he trying to get a last minute deal done with the late great Harley Hotchkiss attempting to save the NHL season?

Consider Linden was a longtime supporter of deposed and somewhat disgraced NHL Players Association executive director Ted Saskin. And according to sports agent Allan Walsh on Twitter, he also apparently supported Saskin even after it was learned Saskin was reading the emails of players using their PA account, along with other matters which related to the departing executive taking just a tiny fraction of the money that was owed to him. Further, Linden helped Saskin oust previous NHLPA boss Bob Goodenow, who was poised to stop the slide of the players’ revenue share right where it stood, and the results are right there now for the players to see. They are getting just 50 per cent of revenues, instead of 56 per cent, and that will almost certainly fall again if NHL commissioner Gary Bettman hangs around until the end of the current collective bargaining agreeement.

Further, there will be some GMs who were players at the time or recent retirees, who would have trouble dealing with Linden for that reason. But Linden is a nice fellow and he may well be able to overcome this when he gives his side of the story as to what happened during those dramatic days with the NHLPA to those crucially positioned people
