First of all, Kinsler comes off as a whiny brat here. He should have just kept his mouth shut and taken the high road, or at the very least focused all of his comments toward JD and not the team itself. Complaining about having to shoulder too much of a leadership role makes him look very weak. I've met Ian once and he couldn't have been friendlier. But, we've always known that he has rocks for brains, so this doesn't really come a that big of a surprise to me.

However, I will say that his comments about JD being a sleazeball have merit. You can dismiss arrogant douches like Josh and CJ when they bad mouth JD. But when nice guys like Nolan, MY, Moore, and Kinsler all say the same thing too, it starts to really paint an accurate picture of what type of person JD is. You need your GM to be very cutthroat and make the tough decisions necessary for your team to succeed. But you also want a GM who is upfront and honest with his own employees and treat them with respect. That, by all accounts, is where JD fails. There is a ton of backstabbing and double-talk that comes from his office. JD said in the media he was regretful for how he handled the whole MY fiasco. Now he's regretful for how Kinsler found out about the trade. You start to really see how his employees and former employees have felt blindsided and betrayed by him.

A good GM is able to trade away a longtime popular player if it benefits the team. But a great GM calls that player into his office first, sits him down, and tells him face to face and thanks him for his time there.

Sometimes deals come up that don't afford you time to get all your ducks in a row. I agree that a better scenario is to sit down with all parties involved, but if another team or another person leaks something...not much JD can do about it. It appears that JD does take care of those that he sees as worthy of being taken care of. He doesn't let valuable people walk over a little money, he gets players extended that we intend to keep. He isn't afraid to make extensions when most are left scratching their heads because the guy was still under contract. He doesn't tell people that he values "go test the market and we will get back with you later". If you provide a good value and a good product, JD will take care of you. That's what I'm reading, and that's what I want in a GM. Imagine if Jerry ran things like JD. It looks a lot like how the Pats run things. You have something to offer at a market price, welcome aboard. You want me to pay you based on past production, no thanks. You are unwilling to move to help the team, we will move you...to help the team.

to another thing, how many GM's play their games in the media? JD never does that. He doesn't let his players hang out there, having to answer reporters who want to know how they feel about playing for another team. Perhaps if he made it more public that a player might be shopped or traded, the player would have more notice that something might be coming down the pike.

I don't think anyone likes that option.

I'm sure his feelings were hurt but I'm pretty confident he was baited into saying most of this for the article. ESPN loves to stir up drama. I'm a little disappointed that he said a few of these things but I can understand him being a little frustrated as well. I don't think I will hold it against him to much though. Someone was right... he will like retract or correct the contents of the article before too long.

"I’m not happy about it. The story was written for drama and taken a little out of context. But it is what it is." Asked about the 0-162 comment, Kinsler told the Free Press: "It’s a matter of telling a joke, to be honest with you." The three-time All-Star said he's not planning to reach out to Daniels about the "sleazeball" comment, but stressed that it, too, was taken out of context.

The question is: Can Ron Washington survive an 0-162 season?

Ron, JD, the entire FO, and most of the team wouldn't survive an 0-162 season.

Suddenly the Astros are hopeful... I mean if they can sweep the Rangers... Who knows...

To think...the 2 losses to the Astros last year were the difference between the Rangers missing the playoffs....rather than making them. :gaah:

Is it considered trash talk when you tell someone, essentially, your team will go at least 1 - 161?

That is funny but I really do not have a problem with Ian because he did come to play everyday. He did not jog after a grounder or swing nonchalantly at 3 pitches out of the strike zone and go sit down. He may have been a lamebrain at times but he still played hard. So for that I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think it's great that the rangers live in Hamilton's head rent free still.

No kidding and for that reason we ought to give Kinsler a standing ovation his first time up just to really mess with Hamilton's head. HA!

He'll always be one of my favorite rangers. I'm just really disappointed he felt the need to say those things.

I think he is just hurt, much like anyone who faces rejection. He let it get the best of him and as time goes on he will regret it. He may always have issues with JD because of the 1st base thing but JD has to be willing to make the tough decisions like you stated earlier. And personally I would rather have Fielder at 1st than Kinsler so maybe it is a good thing he did not do it. And to be honest I can see where the Andrus/Beltre thing could get to some players.

Sounds to me like Texas got rid of a clubhouse cancer and got a bad ass hitter in return.

I don't care about the "I hope they go 0-162" comments. I care that he publicly complained about being asked to become more of a leader. That shows a huge character issue. Now I get the trade even more so. Once he did that, the team knew it was going to become a huge problem going forward. Thanks JD. You cannot have guys that think of themselves before the team when they are being paid as much as Ian was.

Even still....

I don't want the Tigers to go 0-162.

I reserve that spot for the Angel$.

Agree the response about having a leadership role is disappointing.
