With hall back and orakpo now tagged I really don't want to see us spend a lot on a corner. Roll with hall and amerson then sign a third cb cheap

i agree we dont need to overspend for Corner, but instead of a cheap CB that would get us a Biggers, or Wilson, how about a MIdrange CB that has skills and would contribute....Once nice thing about having cap space now...we dont have to go CHEAP for CB we can get a midrange adequate player now!!! I dont want CHEAP...DONT want EXpensive...Want something in the MIddle that can contrubte good!!!

We are going to have over 20mil, we better get an elite/above average FA somewhere. we can land the FA and still take care of our draft picks. Its the beauty of no 1st rounder. Verner, WR, Lamar Houston, FS/SS ???

not gonna happen. We don't have the money, too many other holes. CB is still unsettled, but at least we have 2 that can start. At safety, we don't have any. if we spend big money on one more, it will be a safety or ILB (maybe our own).

knowing we can get him for 9 a yr makes me only dislike it and not hate it anymore.
Only thing is you can fix the FS/SS situation with 9mil, probably an elite fix with 11mil.
I do believe Amerson will take a tremendous leap forward with an above average secondary around him.
Besides next year, you can just draft a CB in the first...save a ton

The deal was 4 years, $32 million with $16 million of that guaranteed.

So unless my math is off, 32/4= 8

So yes the average per year cost on the deal was $8 million a year. Even in guaranteed money of $16 million, reality is they couldnt cut him until year three. And no way is Talib going to come in for LESS than what Grimes got.

you don't know if the contract is back loaded. it could be 3yr 16 mil deal. nfl contracts are always reworked

So wait a second... now we want to talk contract structure? When I said it was quite plausible to get one of our own on a contract like that... it was all about the average value of the deal. But when its a guy like Talib... oh well it might be a back loaded deal thats really only a three year deal in any case.

Right now the deal stands as 4 years 32 million which is an average of $8 million a year. those are the hard numbers. I will let you know tomorrow what the fuzzy math on the deal is when it posts. BUt the facts are as it stands

1. Talib played for just over $5 million last year
2. He is looking for the big payday and has not been shy about saying so.
3. Grimes just got a deal on face value of $8 million a year.
4. Talib thinks he is better than Grimes and thus will likely want MORE than what Grimes just got.

btw, who exactly did Talib shutdown? not saying that he did not play extremely well, because he did. But I can't recall any big time matchups? EXCEPT the Steve Smith, Josh Gordon games that didn't go so well....

I'm willing to be corrected, will be back in a few hours

Shark is absolutely right on Grimes. Regardless of structure, Grimes set the market at 8/season.

Did anyone honestly think Grimes would get this kind of deal because I sure didn't?

Covered Jimmy Graham on an island for a game and didn't give up a catch.

I don't understand the want for talib or verner at this point. They're both going to be at least 8+ mil per year and we already have hall and amerson. I'd much rather give amerson a shot and then spend that 8+ mil on Byrd or some other more important areas.

I'd rather pass on Byrd and go after a cheaper player and have some left for another player.

I like Byrd as long as the price is reasonable but I'm ok with what you're saying as well. Point is talib and verner wouldn't make sense at this point.

After taking a closer look, in addition to shutting down Jimmy Graham (how many corners could actually do that???) he

Held vjax to 3 for 34 yards
Held aj green to 4 for 58
D Thomas had 4 for.41 although I dint know if he covered him.

Apparently he also shut down roddy white and julio Jones although Jones had 100 yards so I don't believe he covered him for stretches. There were some wrs that had decent to good games against the pats but I don't know if he was actually cornering them the whole game or even at all.

Yea, but is a guy who is already on the leagues three strike program and already has two strikes REALLY worth the kind of money he wants?? As we have seen, DC is NOT the place for guys with substance issues. Atleast not for the kind of money Talib wants. I hope the raiders sign him day one and remove any temptation we might have. Because something tells me we sign him and have Albert Haynesworth flash backs. Once this kid gets paid, he's going to flop. Its not about the game for him, its about the money first, last and always. The game is just a means to the money. And once he gets the money, he will lose his game.

Oh i agree he's probably not worth what he'll get especially for us. I do think hes a great player though. At this point there is no need whatsoever for us to sign him.
