I'm wondering why Tuitt doesn't get more love on here.
True, FA will dictate the draft. Shark we are going after Talib. Like it or not. He might be had for 7-8 mil a season. That is not breaking the bank by no means for Talib. Especially if Hall leaves there is no veteran CB. You said you wanted to draft a Cb at #34. That would mean that guy would have to start along side Amerson. I wouldn't like that at all.
IM on record as saying Talib is a very very bad idea. He is in it for the money ( I know they all are) but with his injury and off field issues, paying him 7-8 million a year would be a huge mistake. I would rather they bring back Hall at half that and draft a CB.
Hall is not worth half of what Talib will get. You would really pay Hall 4-5 mil a season. lol What!! There are already rumors that we are going to pursue him. I already posted a link to jy19 to prove it. I know Shields is younger but he is not the player Talib is and he will command big money b/c of his age. 7-8 million is not top dollar for a CB. Revis gets 16. We desperately need a #1 CB and Talib is it.
Dean, I know you have love for Talib. But I think he is one of those players who will get paid on a long term deal and his level of play will drop from that point. Thats all he is looking for is the payday, and I think he is a mistake. Hell Revis is severly over paid. And i think Hall for 3-4 million a year would give us more production than Talib fat and happy for $8 million a year. Not even taking into account if Talib gets into ANY off field trouble.
I cant believe you guys are comparing hall to Talib. We will see.
Didn't Talib get absolutely torched by Josh Gordon?
When was the last time Hall was truly torched?
FA shouldn't dictate the draft. That's one of the problems with our history. The draft should dictate FA.
It is ass backwards. Ideally, you use FA to fill holes and augment your team that has been built through your draft. You draft the best players available and then use FA to plug the holes you couldn't address in the draft. but since FA occurs first, this is hard to do.
FA takes place before and after the draft. It's not exclusive.
The reason the draft should be the base and FA is the filler...FA is expensive and you overpay for players. There is a reason their old teams do not resign them and let them hit FA.
Bargains are found after the draft...not before.
This is where our organization has gone wrong for too long. If that one FA can put you over the top...perhaps. We aren't close.
It happens every year. Successful teams rarely make the splash.
And there are just as many unsuccessful teams who dont partake of free agency and try to build strictly through the draft. We have neither the first round draft pick, or the owner and fan base to sit through another two or three years of being bad while we try and avoid bringing in big name free agents. Our real problem with free agency has been spending big money on aging players past their prime. Thats what we need to not do.
