it's a passing league

...and it's all about the QB

true or false?
...if you answered 'true', you are with the experts
NE starts to run the ball a little and the bengs immediately change their offensive philosophy

this is how we became the bengals and why we will stay the bengals

It's cyclical.

The Bengals don't want to run the ball just because NE ran it well last week. It's a philosophy that Hue believes in. That's fine.

The key is balance. Doing just enough of one thing (be it passing or running) to keep defenses honest.

In another 5 years, the age of the power back could return. With defenses gearing more and more towards 3-4 WR's and bigger TE's that can run, eventually defense will struggle to stop power runs because they will employ less 320lb DT's and more lighter, agile DT's, LB's to keep up with passing. Then, teams will start drafting bigger RB's again.

Rinse and repeat.

The Andy Dalton passing 50 times per game experiment didn't work out so well. In some games, maybe, but no consistency. Great teams can run AND pass. If Hue sticks to his history and instills a strong running game, this can only help Andy and the offense as a whole. Center is a huge need in this draft and is where we should focus in the first few rounds if there is a center that warrants a high draft pick. As each year passes, defenses are built more and more to stop the pass. This only helps offenses who want to run just as much as they pass.

1. Agreed. Would have had a lot more TE split wide on offense.

2. Green finished just 15 yards shy of the franchise single season receiving yards. He had 10 TD's on a team where the 2nd WR also had 10 TD's. He was used. This statement makes no sense. Running the ball a bit more, and effectively, could open up more deep passing and 1-1 coverages for AJ and MJ.

3. Hawkins missed 8 weeks. He wasn't going to just come back and catch 50+ passes, especially with how well Andy actually did in spreading the ball around.

4. High draft picks should be able to do whatever you drafted them to do. In the OL case, if you are a high pick it is because you can do both, protect in pass and run. Whit, Ziet, and Smith are high draft picks (2nd, 1st, 1st) and all pretty much grade out to be able to do both. Sure, they will have their strenghts and weakness, but overall, they can do both. The other guys were not drafted high, or were F/A's.

Cincygrad doesnt believe in what Hue can do with a run game...he will be a believer at end of 2014

I don't live in fantasyland.

If it were simple to run for 4 yards a pop, every team in the league would do it. And you guys are telling me that all you really need to do is retrain your guys? Ridiculous. It is very difficult to be an efficient running football team. And it takes a particular type of roster which we don't have.

I think Hue is a great coach and I think he'll have more balance than Jay. I also think it would be silly to limit Hue's creativity to the run..... He has a roster that is built to pass the football and he needs (and I expect he will) to make use of that talent.

Here is 1 for you..bengals will be top 12 in rushing in 2014
IF we make the playoffs WE WILL WIN

The Eagles were top 3 in rushing would you say their Oline is better than ours???? HELL NAH! Whats the blocking scheme??? How are the protections??? We have maulers in Whit, SMith, Zeitler and we cant add to this???? Dude come on man....... We aint throwin 50 times a game Gingerbread man cant handle it...PERIOD

We're too talented to have BJGE be the feature guy in this offense. Plus, all of our personnel screams for us to be primarily a passing team with the exception of our QB. THat being said, we still need to throw the ball in an uptempo, possession style offense. If we try to be some smashmouth team, we'll be predictable and put ourselves in a lot of 3 and outs. Not saying to abandon the run, but I think the strengths of the offense is the passblocking and the ton of talent that we have at the skill positions. If it were me, I'd make the TE's the focal point of the offense.

Gio went off at 4.1 per clip, BJGE at 3.4. Maybe the problem isn't the line, maybe it's the talent???

If we are going to do this, someone needs to work with our tight ends on setting the edge for Gio, who can rip off huge chunks to the outside if given room.

The Eagles were 5th in rushing in 2010, 5th in rushing in 2011, 13th in rushing in 2012 and first this past year.

They didn't go from the bottom of the barrel to one of the best rushing teams overnight.

My point remains -- You need the personnel to be successful. Coaching isn't everything.

BTW -- In Hue's one season with the Falcons, his team was 26th in rushing. Not his fault -- They didn't have the talent, but again it shows that you have to have the personnel.

Bernard's YPC would be lower if he had to play every down. I'd wager that he has many more carries in high probability passing situations than the Firm.

Green-Ellis is useless except in short yardage and goal line situations. They need to replace him with a bell cow type power back. But the run blocking needs to improve. If Whit stays at guard then the LT is more pass blocker than run blocker. If Whit moves back to tackle then they need to replace Boling who is not a physical run blocker. The center is substandard.

It doesn't matter. We have Hue.

I look forward to:

First down -- 2 yard BJGE into middle of pile

Second down --2 yard BJGE into middle of pile

Third down -- Short out incomplete to AJ Green.

Every Bengal Fan: "We need to open it up."

LOL. I think we're the only voices of reason here.......

No, you seem to be illogical in your thought process. I understand completely what you are saying about being a passing team.....however.....as a passing team, it sure would be nice to have a qb that can actually....you know......pass. This offense suffers with Andy at qb and something has to be done to cover that. The Bengals have shown they can run the ball when they commit to it and it can definitely be improved upon. If you believe there is simply nothing can be done to help the run game, what is your suggestion on what the offense does? Cross our fingers and hope Andy gets better?
