I do agree that we do like taking our shots at each other and all, so it's all good. But I'm not all that sure the Lakers are making that many "silly moves". Just saying'...

In post 20, was the start of Laker talk in this thread. I joined in much after the fact.
The Rose threads are retarted.
Wishing or making fun of a player being injured?:noidea:
If anybody but Hammer started with that shit, you(Laker fans) would be the first to be all over it.
Since he is one of you, all we saw was a bunch of :bj:

At least one good thing with him out is Addidas will kill that stupid commercial with him acting like he would still have some huge passion for basketball without all the mansions, bling, and bitches you get being a NBA player.

About as vomit inducing stupid as Kobe's pre-r*pe Sprite commercials.

Googling "Kobe pre r*pe sprite commercial" was not as successful as I hoped.

You have links to a few of your favorites?

Sure it does. If Kobes main objective was winning over cash, then he would have allowed the team to sign an extra player vs having to give him that amount of money.

There was/is no way to do both.

So do you have a better chance with Kobe plus possibly 1 high end FA, or Kobe plus 2 high end FA's?

Obviously Kobe with 2 high end FA's is a better chance, but Kobe with the right high end FA and the right quality/non-max FA can still contend.

Example: We both know that the Lakers will make a strong push for Lebron (we both agree that him going to the Lakers is unlikely). However, if Lebron were to decide to join the Lakers, then having him, Kobe and a few solid players (the Lakers have a few on this roster who look like they may be keepers), then they have an excellent chance.

Assuming Lebron doesn't come. Then they can add a solid, non-max FA or 2 and go for a high end FA in 2015 and possibly contend then.

Worst case scenario, the Lakers start contending again in 2016 when they will have the cap space to land a couple of high end FA's.

You get James, then you automatically are in any conversation.

You lose Gasol though, right?
He isn't anything great any more, but he is a skilled 7 footer.
The money you are spending is his current cap space, right?
Can you get something better then him for that money? Probably. I agree.
But whoever that is plus Kobe isn't near enough to become elite.
Nash's $$ kills you and he isn't retiring.
Do the math.

I see Kevin Love and possibly Kyrie being the 2 most logical players to try to plan for in the next couple/few years.
Chances are both will leave where they are, and both would benefit to play with each other.

Is that a dynamic duo unique to the league? Nope.
But it is a solid 1-2 that with a few other pieces would put you in back in the conversation IMO.

It's not just Gasol that comes off the books. Counting Kobe and Nash, there are about 4, maybe 5 under contract for next season. Some of these will be re-signed, some will not.

As far as Nash and Gasol. I expect that Nash will be waived after the season and the stretch provision used which would provide $6 million in cap relief. If Nash just can't get healthy, then I believe he can medically retire. In that case, the Lakers would still have to pay him, but it wouldn't count against the cap.

I would also not be surprised if Pau is traded for picks and/or players with expiring contracts or simply allowed to leave via free agency. He's been on the trading block for the past 3 seasons anyway, this would be the year to pull the trigger on that. The only way that I see him staying a Laker is if he takes significantly less than he is making this year (less than $10 million).

I agree with the Love/Kyrie scenario that you suggested. I believe Westbrook is an FA in 2016 and I could see him coming to the Lakers as well. He's from L.A. and played at UCLA.

We can only hope that Nash medically retires. If not, I can actually see the Lakers not using the stretch on him depending on what happens at the trade deadline and in the summer. If little happens this summer, I can see them letting Nash's contract play out so that it comes completely off the books the following season.

It's gonna be a Love/Westbrook duo leading the Lakers eventually. Both players will be in their prime years. It will be their time then!

I forgot about Westbrook. That makes total sense, and I personally much prefer him to Kyrie (so far).
He has a motor that not too many guys in the NBA have.
He has benefited from playing with much better talent to Kyrie, so maybe Kyrie would look better in my eyes had he been on the Thunder and Westbrook on the Cavs.

:agree: I don't think the Lakers could go wrong with either one, but at this point, I'd prefer Westbrook. Assuming D'Antoni is still the coach, Westbrook in D'Antoni's system with Love as the stretch 4 would be a pretty tough combo to match up with.
