Move Peppers back to right end and Wooton back to left end.
Play more man to man in the secondary with Peanut and Jennings.
Send more LB blitz packages.

Right now, Shea needs to either convert to LB or sit on the bench. He can't play DE. He is too small.

If you trust Tillman and Jennings jumping routes and playing one on one, they are gonna get beat deep like a rug. They jump routes because there is help. All it takes is a good pump fake to stop Jennings in his tracks and float it over his head.
Honestly, if you are gonna play one on one with your corners, we would be better off playing 4-6 bear defense now.
I say we have no DT, Peppers and Wooten have played inside, shift to a 3-4 and let Shea stand up again like he did in college. Green Bay would never put Matthews at DE, Shea was never gonna be big enough to be a NFL defensive end. Since Pepp and Corey have played inside, its not a problem to cover either with a linebacker.

I'll ask here what I asked in the other related thread, what defense would Mel Tucker be running if he had a choice? Is he a prototypical cover 2 guy?

I think you leave the guys where they are positionally, but you tighten up your run defense, play more man (like you said), and live with giving up big plays. You hope your offense outscores them and jumping routes gives you some turnovers. I think that's the only move here. We have ZERO interior run defense, and even in a passing league, that's a death knell.

Yup... start playing tight man to man bump and run coverage. Be aggressive, blitz, and like you said, hope Peanut and Jennings can jump some routes and punch some balls out.

Our best hope is that the offense can start playing consistently, instead of this "looking good in short spurts" BS.

They look SO good for a couple of drives, and then struggle. It's especially frustrating when they're moving the ball well on a drive, but stall in opposing territory. Usually around the 40. That happens a lot.

The slow starts on Offense hurt us against good teams. We shoulda been up, minimum, 10-0 before the game even started.

Maybe our "best chance" just happened... With D.J. out it looks like Bostic will get his chance. Hopefully he'll have the same swagger he had in preseason.

As for our front four, they're a train wreck. The Giants have one of the worst O-lines right now and we barely got to Eli. Maybe someone sees Peppers getting double-teamed, but he is a marshmallow out there.

Every game will be a nail-biter if we don't put pressure on the opposing QB.

Love the win though!

Why would losing our starting MLB, who's very good be our "best chance" at getting better?

Or, a blow out.

The Giants targeted him ( Shea ) ,and made Jacobbs look like Jim Brown. The kid is a joke at DE.
My best case scenario would be to sign Richard Seymore (spelling?) @ DT, and move Wooton back to DE.

I agree. I didn't count, but it sure seemed like they chose to run right at Shea pretty frequently.

All I ever see Shea do is get pushed outside and 5 yards PAST the QB, creating monster pockets and lanes for opposing teams.

we really need to just use shea as a backup period. if we weren't so low on D Lineman he would probably be inactive.

Since this boards moving at a turtles pace.

Just curious Cali, The golf season is ending here. I used to aim @ breaking 80, and actually hit 80 2xs, but my lack of play the past few years have me aiming to break 100 now a days.
How's your game coming along . If I remember right you're still pretty fresh to the game.

Out of curiosity, who would you pencil in to play the NT in the "3-4" D ? Usually that individual weights north of 320lbs and is an immovable rock also, since he is so big and out of shape, who's you're back up to play every 3rd series or if this NT gets injured??? I don't recall seeing anyone on the Bear roster that fits the starting position bill much less a back up as well?!?!

While we may have the LB core moving Shea to a LB slot and with all the rookies we drafted, we don't have the Defensive Line to run a 3-4. Honestly, aside from Wooten, Peppers and maybe Washington, we actually don't have the DE to run a 3-4 as most of the others are on the smallish size like Bass and Shea. All the other guys like Paea, Minter, would be pretty useless since they're not NT's or DE's in a 3-4.

I really dont know who is gonna play tackle next week. There is talk of trading someone, maybe even Shea to keep the 7 draft picks we have but nobody seems to want the lowest rated defensive end in football. I thought most of the guys standing up on the line in the 3-4 were actually linebackers and thats what Shea did in college. Wooten played DT last game and linebackers were getting in on plays.

Just saying you can name three Defensive lineman we have, so putting a fourth somebody to bottle things up some sure isnt getting the job done.

Guys I think we can trade are of course Shea, might actually let Wright go if you dont plan on resigning him this off season, 80 bennett and even maybe Michael Bush. You think any of those would get a DT that might play next year?

yeah, I am slowly but surely getting better...finally breaking 110! Oh boy. But I am having fewer truly awful holes, and once in awhile I get a reminder why it's an awesome game.

so here's a controversial idea I know will never happen and I don't even agree with myself....but....

the reason we haven't signed Richard Seymour supposedly is he wants 5 mil and we only have like 3 mil to spare. So maybe to clear the space.....trade Julius Peppers to a contender for some medium-grade serviceable DE to fill his spot, then take the salary savings and sign Seymour.

Yeah, I know, it isn't happening.

IF the Bears wanted Seymour they could find the money. Restructure Peppers or someone else, Briggs, etc... However, I don't believe they like him that much. Supposedly, we're getting Paea back v. Washington. That should help.

you are right,I am thinking irrationally right now.

A friend of mine just died today because of the insurance changes. Dude was a die hard Bears fan.

Fuck you, BArack Obakma voters. Fuck you.

Should help big time. Especially against the run. We've been pulling guys off of the street to start at DT, along with playing our 260 pound mediocre defensive end in the middle.

God damned... I'd kill for Idonije right now. Should have found the money to pay him. Although, I know he was asking for a lot.

Just... stop with this.

No one is changing their defensive scheme mid-season. That's insanity and typical fan talking out of their ass talk.
