I use to think the pro game was better than college, because they had pretty much the same rules, and the NFL players just played a more watchable game. I have now done a 180 and i think the college game is more entertaining that the pro game. I just like college rules better, watching the NFL today is like watching arena football. The fact that a team is averaging over 40+ point proves that defense in the pro game irrelevant, and for me, a game just isn't exciting, when you pretty much know the last team with the ball will win the game.

In my opinion, the only way the NFL will become better than NCAA football again, will be if the NFL gets rid of illegal contact.

I can't tell if this is serious or not.

Let me get this straight; you're complaining that the pro game has too much offense and that's why you like the college game better? :wtf2:

you got it, you see blowouts in college because of talent disparity not because of rules.

And here I thought it was because Denver was good and the Giants and Raiders suck...who would have thought it was the rules??

the Denver WR wouldn't be able to get as open as easy if DB's could throw off the timing and routes of receivers after 5 yards.

If anything, the college rules help the offense even more than they do in the NFL. For example, the clock stops after every first down, making the games go longer and allowing more time for the offense to run up crazy scores. The wider hashmarks in college also help create more space for the offense to operate.

The 5 yard rule is the same as college.

Yeah if only the college scores in games actually backed up your point. The fact that just a couple of weeks ago two of the top ten teams in the NCAA in Alabama and Texas A&M met up and both scored over 40 points and that was with Alabama being considered one of the best defenses in the nation. So if any of the two is more like Arena football it would be the college ranks. Heck we have a college coach in Chip Kelly that prided himself on being able to put up 60 or more points on teams.

I also believe that college football is better than pro. My take on it however is I feel rivalries mean more at the college level, tradition, the impact of losing one or two games is more extreme than it is in the NFL, and talent disparity as mentioned (upsets have a larger impact etc). As for rules and regulation, college rules maybe 10 years ago were great, but now they're starting to have some bad rules put in place. I think you could pick and choose which are bad rules that are breaking the sport in each league, both NCAA and NFL could use some work on making better rules and regulation. A huge example, which I am still baffled why the NFL hasn't adapted it is the OT rule placed in the NCAA. The NCAA's OT rule is fair and not so much decided by a coin flip on who can get the ball first. Both leagues have pro's and con's though.

Of course losses mean more. If you play 12 games and 7 of them are against teams that have no business showing up, of course a loss in one of the three games that matters hurts.

Also, college overtime is boring.

A thousand times no. College overtime sucks.

.....you play 12 games and 7 of them are against teams that have no business showing up....

This is one reason the NFL is far superior. You don't get the physical mismatches. There are blowouts in the NFL too, but they're far less frequent and they're not due to one team being physically far superior to the other (bigger, faster, stronger).

But the #1 reason the NFL is better is because it's the best playing the best. It's the game played at its highest level. CFB is the minors in comparison. If you went to a particular college and have a rooting interest in your alma mater I get that. Otherwise, not so much. I watch the occasional college game if I have nothing better to do because I love football and I usually watch several of the bowl games. But better than the NFL ? ... Not even close. If I want to watch an inferior version of the sport, I'd just as soon go down the street and watch the local high school game. In fact I did just that Friday. At least I know some of those kids.

I stand corrected. Still doesn't change the fact that there is way more offense in college than the pros.

there is more defense in college as well.....more offense and more defense makes NCAAF better.

What? Did you look at the scores I posted? There's no defense in college football anymore. Even Alabama, who is supposed to have a great defense, gave up over 40 to A&M.

Yeah and that's because the defenses are mediocre at best because there just isn't enough talent to go around. Playmakers who will play on Sundays can make most college defenses look silly, if not non-existant, and often do.

More defense? Maybe in the blowout wins where a Division I school is playing a Division III school and the final score is 70-7. Yes there is more offense in the NFL now than there was 20 years ago but it is nowhere near what the college game has. This is why the Broncos just set their all-time record at 52 points where college football many of the Division I programs seem to have half their games against scrub teams where they score this many points.

Throw in the NFL has some of the highest turnover in top teams where college football about the same 10 schools or so seem to remain great for years upon years. I would rather not know who is going to be the top BCS Schools at the end of the year 4 months in advance.
