He is much like the POTUS but on a much smaller scale. Everyone wants to blame him for the state of the game but he is just doing what his owners pay him to do. The league is being sued by many ex players and has just settled but he has done nothing without instruction from his owners.

Stop blaming Roger as if he were capable of going against the people who pay his salary.

He's complicit but certainly not in charge. He's paid to be the puppet and paid well.

I hold that against him for being a fraud but he's just a puppet.

I think Roger has done a good job on cracking down on off field incidents and hits to the head. Only problem I have, is when he finds players for stupid shit, esp the uniforms....

Goodell has done a good job overall. It is not easy being the commissioner of a gigantic venture like the NFL.

Agreed. I hate the stupid fines as well. I don't like a lot of the new rules either but the league is trying to put a safer product on the field. It's a business even though its entertainment for us.

The uniform thing really gets a bit crazy. Worrying about things like socks and what not, and the amount of the fines for these violations are whacked.

I don't have a problem with $10,000 fines for wearing the wrong socks. Don't like it? Wear the right socks dummy! It's not rocket surgery.

I guess your OK with what ever the fine is. To me it's relative, the amount they fine for uni violations vs others is whacked.

With your logic, if they passed a law for jaywalking and the fine was three years in prison, you would be fine with that, after all don't want fine don't do the crime right?

I can not agree with that line of thinking.

Also in Gore case, he wasn't wearing the wrong socks, just wearing them to low . Yeah he was warned, but I'm sure his reaction was ,...that can't be for real.

To a large extent, yes. However, I don't think you can honestly compare NFL policy to a law. People voluntarily sign up to play in the NFL, and they're paid millions for doing so. A law affects everyone, and they have no choice in the matter (even if they don't know about the law).

Obviously the "punishment" has to fit the "crime," per se, but anything les than $5,000 - $10,000 isn't going to be enough to make NFL players take notice. Would I be ok with them losing an entire game cheque? No. I think that would be excessive. $10,000? That's about right. And it's not like this is some inconvenience to NFL players. I'm sure every team has a bunch of never-used socks ready to go for players if they need 'em.

Here's a solution to socks being too low: throw them away after every game & get a new pair for every game. The elastic won't wear out in 1 day.

I believe in fitting the punishment to the crime. You say 10.000 is nothing to worry about, that just might depend if your a super star or a 7th round draft choice that caught on. Either way $ 10.000 for low socks is not reasonable ( even if your are a star player). Just my opinion.

Well according to the CBA, they can't fine players based on a percentage of the salary; the fines have to be uniform (like socks).
