I hope people aren't disappointed when the Mariners don't let him pitch beyond a certain point in his starts regardless of how well he's pitching in any of those starts or they let him pitch as deep into his starts as he can get but, in doing so, limit the number of starts he makes up here this year. He still has an innings limit and he's still approaching it soon. Pitching for the Mariners won't change that.

Care to actually make an opinion instead of just name calling?

Just a fact check, which pitcher in the organization has proven themselves enough to be called up to make the start? It may be a publicity stunt to get an extra 10 people in the crowd who aren't watching the Seahawks recap but he still has earned it.

I've watched every Walker start at AA and AAA this year on my MiLB.com feed. He has pitched a lot this year for a 21 year old who struggled mightily last year. He has grown, and will continue to get better. He will probably compete for a 2014 roster spot.

He will be a great MLB pitcher.

How does this help either him or the 13 games under .500 2013 Mariners with a month to go? Any answer besides "not at all" will most assuredly be moronic.

There are a lot of options for getting a 5th starter for the last month of a lost season besides calling up Walker. Your "fact check" question is truly silly.

I really don't see much of a point for calling him up at this point. I honestly think this a tactic to get the last ounce of interest out of some fans at the end of the season.

The season is over for the Mariners anyway. I don't really care if they run Noesi or Beavan out there for the remainder of the season.

IMO this is a pointless move that accomplishes next to nothing.

This move is what incompetent Front Offices do. Call up your prized pitching prospect to pitch 20-30 meaningless innings in September.

You have to ask yourself if you're going to call him up now, why not 2 or 3 months ago. He was pitching the same then as he is now. He earned the promotion 2 months ago and Arron Harang sucked just as bad 2 months ago.

Im going to assume that this move was forced by Maurer having to be burned Wednesday because Felix got shelled. I gotta think Maurer was the 1st choice.

Im not sure the answer to this question but does this but this affect his service time?? Because if it does this is an awful move. At most you will see him for 3 starts will no more then 5-6 innings per start.

However at the same time nothing is driving me more crazy then watching Harang and Saunders throw batting practice during a rebuilding year. Personally I would have rather seen Paxton get a shot but oh well.

It's September. Lots of teams call up their prospects to see how they'll do. This is a normal thing.

Man, there sure are alot of General Manager's on this forum. I had no idea there was such a shortage of GM positions in baseball that all the qualified ones would sit on "Sportshoopla.com" and second guess every decision made by their team.
I assume they brought him up so he could have that "experience" of his first big league game and get the jitters and nerves out when it means nothing. Then when spring training rolls around he is a bit more seasoned and not so shit scared nervous on opening day.
I highly doubt the organization is hurting him by letting him start against the Astros.

Incompetent front offices make September (yes, I know it's still August, but it's the 30th, so we're splitting hairs here) call-ups?

It's easy to say he earned the call-up two months ago, but he's made just 11 starts in AAA at this point. Even Felix made more AAA starts than that before he was called up in '05. I also wouldn't call these upcoming games meaningless. Outside of Houston and the Angels, the Mariners play nothing but winning teams/playoff contenders from here on out (yes, that includes Kansas City at the moment). Those teams will either be trying for a winning record, fighting for a playoff spot or jockeying for playoff position, so while the games might be meaningless in terms of contention for the Mariners, they're hardly meaningless to the teams we'll be playing against.

I'm fairly certain we have him under club control through 2019, but I could be mistaken. Seattle could have pushed it out to 2020, but that would have meant he didn't make the roster out of Spring Training next year which I don't see happening.

I'm not worried about his service time. If he's as good as advertised, then the Mariners will probably try to sign him long-term before they even reach arbitration with him anyway. Teams aren't waiting around to lock up their best young players long-term anymore. They're signing them to long-term contracts before the players even have a chance to sniff free agency if there's even a hint that the guy is gonna be great.

No incompetent front offices make these kind of September call-ups. You don't see the Twins calling up Sano, or the Cubs call up Baez or the Astros calling up Springer or Singleton. You know why? Because they want the team control for another year. Right now calling up Walker means he'll be a free agent in 2019 instead 2020.
