I think UW is the favorite in this one. New stadium, more returning starters, but don't count out the Broncos. Every year they open in a hostile venue, and they've only lost two of these in a decade.

this... I can attest.

Good to hear from you again, smilesid! This time I agree with you: UW is and should be the fav in this game. Looking from down south I see UW as a much improved team this year. They will make some noise in the North. That should be obvious but no one seems to give them credit. If the Price is right, UW will take it and they will make it a convincing win. If not Boise will make them sorry.

Boise will be tough because a loss this game means , as usual, a likely 11-1 and top 20 rank rather than 12-0 and a top 10 rank at season's end. Could mean lots of $ for Boise one way or another.

But then revenge is also a good motivator. UW feels, and I agree, they should have beat Boise in Vegas but ended up looking bad; their fault, not Boise's. If UW wants respect for their program they must win this game.

I think they will.

And we understand why. You don't get credit until you prove it. Oregon was a field goal away from an undefeated season and UW was a couple of bad plays away from a 9 win year. The reality for both teams is those close game exist and shit happens. That is why I don't give a rip about preseason polls. Had UW held on vs WSU and not shot their won foot vs BSU they would be ranked with the very same kids instead of something in the 40's. That's how it works. Winning fixes everything and until they do there will be the doubters and haters.

If Washington is going to shed their treading water trend of the last 3 years and finally do something, this game is a must win. I expect them to play like it and pull out a hard fought 10 point win. I'll echo the sentiments that BSU isn't as strong this year as they were 2+ years ago, but they're still going to be a tough team to play against and I wouldn't be shocked at all if Boise State manages to pull this one out. I'm glad this game is in Seattle.

Everything points in favor of UW, home field, more returning starters. But I never underestimate coach Pete when he has time to prepare. I think it will be close, and can only hope BSU comes out on top.

This game is starting to really give me the creeps. I'm not gonna say "book it!". No freaking way. You just don't do that with Peterson. Plus lets see how the fall camps go.

The Huskies aren't getting any cred yet by the pollsters, but I do believe its the best team we've had since the 2001 RB team. At a talent level, especially on D. We beat Stanford and OSU last year, but really fizzled at the end of the season in embarrassing fashion. That's what we're being remembered for. Sucks, but it is justified.

All that being said, I just can't see the Huskies losing this game at the new stadium opener with this team.

Huskies win by 7-10 points. But this is BSU and Peterson. They could take it if we come out flat and nervous Nelly's.

Go Dawgs!

This should be a close game. I was at the BSU @ MSU game to open the season last year and Boise came in to East Lansing playing hard. We were able to hang on for the win, but just barely. I don't know a lot about the Huskies, but I'm going to go with Boise in a close game, possible OT.

At least you get that I'm not dumping on BSU. I do think they are not quite as strong as they were a few years ago with Moore, but they are always dangerous. On a neutral site who knows what the final would be. At home with UW going to the up tempo no huddle and no one has film on it and breaking in a new stadium along with a seemingly improved again defense it's a tall task for anyone to come in and win that first game. They were a close to even team last year in the bowl and now there are a lot of added intangibles for UW's side in this rematch. Is it at least possible they lose? Of course. Price could be bad. They could have a slew of injuries. It's college football and anything can happen any week, but to me the odds of UW winning are well above 50%.
-------
Up tempo and no huddle takes time to learn on the field in real game time. Just look at Nebraska last year. For that reason and becuse I think Peterson is one of the best game planners/expoiters, I'm going with Boise in a close one.

Gotta go Boise. Not just because im a fan, but because I honestly believe we will win. Chris Petersen is virtually unstoppable with a returning QB. Also, Demarcus Lawrence was not at the bowl game - easily our best defensive player. We have a lot of Q's, but opening in a hostile environment is not foreign to Petersen or Boise State. See Autzen, VT, Georgia, MSU, and others. It wasn't JUST UW's mistakes that cost them the game - our defensive line flat out OWNED the UW offensive line.

Boise in a close one. Never underestimate Chris Petersen.

Boise got LeVeon Belled in that game. What 46 carries and 210 yards or something? He made our defense look like a bunch of JV players in that game.

What up Spartan? Are you originally from the CBS message boards?

Ha, nice username Boise. :10:

Yeah, Bell won that game by himself: 210 yds, 2 TDs. Boise St total yards: 203.

And yes, I came over from CBS, just last week actually. I hadn't been on in a very long time. Was quite surprised to see all the changes to the site. But SportsHoopla's a pretty nice site, I like the change.

Huh?? Seriously? "The home team" lol.....

I'll take Boise State to win cause I'm a homer but I know first hand how loud Husky Stadium was before and now it will be even louder. Southwick is gonna have to deal with the incredible noise!
This will not be easy at all but, unless Sark has to suspend ASJ. (doubtful) it is definitely a possible loss for us... I think it is the Dawgs game to lose but I believe in Petersen on the road opening day. We almost stole one from Sparty on Southwick's first start, now that he has some real games against good teams and a whole season starting under his belt I think we have a real chance to pull out the upset.

On the other side of the ball, if Sark loses the home opener in their basically brand new stadium, (which is freaking awesome to see in person btw) Sark may not survive to coach another season . (jmo) UW needs this win to start the season and a good PAC12 showing this year! He will stop at nothing to win this one! I think Sark starts with making sure ASJ plays!

My personal opinion is that the Dawgs have the edge and "should" win, but the last time Boise was here Taylor Tharp was following the Zabranski era and kinda sucked in his first game... Southwick is better trained more experience and learned everything from Petersen and Moore.
This is not a gimmie home game for UW. .....Expect some trickeration and some great football from both sides! It's gonna be a great game either way!

30-27 Boise State :suds:

I think Washington is going to control most of the game. Boise will come up just short at the end after a big 4th quarter.

Is Southwick still QB for BSU?

If so, for BSU's sake, I hope he got a lot better. I think BSU pulls out a close one. The BSU offense wasn't a typical BSU explosive offense with Southwick. They should still win this one.

Anytime Boise is thought to be a big underdog (in this case they only return a few starters) they come out and have a Hell of a year. I got BSU in a close game, this will be one of the better games in week 1.
